The Best Mob or Mafia Movies of All Time

The All Time Best Mob and Mafia movies are listed here. Also listed are other recommended organized crime movies.

Organized crime, murder, drug smuggling, money laundering, racketeering, power and corruption.  What more needs to be said about Mob or Mafia movies.  Like many, I am a huge fan of these movies and have seen pretty much everything under the sun when it comes to organized crime.  Many of these films are already considered classics and some are even mentioned as being the best movies of all time.  Below I have listed what I consider to be the best of all time for these types of movies.  If you have missed any of these then make sure to grab a chair and be entertained because all of these are worth seeing at least once, but more often than not, multiple times.  Here are the best Mob or Mafia movies:

1.)  SCARFACE — Story of Tony Montana and Manny Rae, who build a criminal empire in Miami in the early 1980’s.  Many gruesome gun fights are seen in this movie.  “Say hello to my little friend”.  Al Pacino at his finest.

2.)  CASINO– True story about how the Mob controlled and ran one of the biggest casinos (Tangiers) in Las Vegas in the 1980’s.  Incredible actors in this one: Robert Deniro, Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone, and James Woods among many others highlight this film.  “For two days and two fuckin’ nights, we beat the shit out of this guy. I mean, we even stuck ice-picks in his balls”.

3.)  GOOD FELLAS– Film based on the Italian Mafia in the 60’s and 70’s in New York.  Everything from murder, illegal crimes, snitching, and Mafia family life is looked at through the lives of several gangsters in this film.  Most of the movie does center around Henry Hill and his family though.  Incredible casts of actors in this film including Ray Liotta, Robert Deniro, Joe Pesci and Paul Sorvino. “As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.”

4.)  GODFATHER  (ALL PARTS) — Story of one of New York’s most powerful mafia family, the Corleones.  First movie and all subsequent sequels are centered around this powerful family.  Anything mob related like in Good Fellas is portrayed.  Marlon Brando and Al Pacino highlight the best actors in the film.  “Hey, listen, I want somebody good – and I mean very good – to plant that gun. I don’t want my brother coming out of that toilet with just his dick in his hands, alright”.

5.)  DONNIE BRASCO– True story of an FBI agent who infiltrates the New York City Mob and ends up having personal issues with family life when the line between being a law enforcement officer and acting like a mafia member becomes blurred.  Johnny Depp and Al Pacino highlight the cast.  “When they send for you, you go in alive, you come out dead, and it’s your best friend that does it”.

Other Organized Crime Movies To Not Miss:

1.)  HEAT– Deniro, Pacino and Kilmer.

2.)  PULP FICTION– Tarantino film.  Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurmon and John Travolta.

3.)  RESERVOIR DOGS– Another Tarantino Film.  Harvey Keitel, Chris Penn, Steve Buscemi, and Michael Madsen.

4.)  CARLITO’S WAY — Al Pacino and Sean Penn.

5.)  A BRONX TALE– Robert Deniro

6.)  THE UNTOUCHABLES– Kevin Costner, Robert Deniro, Sean Connery and Andy Garcia.

So there you have my nominations for the best Mob and Mafia movies of all time.  All of these movies are a must see and should not be missed.  Also, be sure to check out the other organized crime movies mentioned too.  I can guarantee, you will not be disappointed in any of them if you like gangster type films.

I was never a big fan of Pulp Fiction – too much going on on too many different levels I guess, and the movie seemed to just hop all over the place.
