Tank Girl: One of Most Under Rated Movies of All Time
This movie shaped my life and if you haven’t seen it, stop reading this and go rent it.
I currently work in the TV and Film business, and I get asked about my favorite movies all the time. One, that I have to say I seldom remember, but should definitely make my list is Tank Girl. I loved this movie. Directed by Rachel Talalay, who has become a successful TV director, and after I looked her up found out she worked with another one of my idols, John Waters on Hairspray as a producer. The movie stars Lori Petty, Ice-T, Malcolm McDowell, and a Naomi Watts in the year 2033, where water is controlled by the evil Water and Power corporation. It came out in 1995, so I was twelve when I first saw it, which means it was right in the time period where I had already been into movies and thought that they were something I would want to do with my life in the future. When I saw this movie it completely shaped me, I thought Lori Petty was extremely hot, with all her outfits, and the fact that they had a female superhero with a mouth on her was even more appealing. The movie doesn’t take itself that seriously which adds to the fun of it, even in the face of extinction Tank Girl is going to say or do whatever she wants. The movie is fairly stylistic adding in a great sound track and animation throughout the film. I liked the music so much that I went out and purchased the sound track. I didn’t have much money at the time and my family wasn’t going to ship out the money for a CD, so I would save the lunch money my dad gave me in order to eventually purchase it. The animation sequences were definitely a highlight, giving credit to the British Cult Comic the movie is based on. Overall, its a fun movie, with two hot chicks, Ice-T playing a Kangaroo, a rocking soundtrack, funny lines, and bad ass animation sequences, what more can you want? My big question is whatever happened to Tank Girl 2???
