The movie “Super Size Me” is a documentary film produced by Morgan Spurlock. Morgan Spurlock went looking to find out how bad fast food really is for your body. The experiment was simple; eat McDonald’s fast food for a whole month 3 times a day and have everything on the menu atleast once. Well, it wasn’t as easy as he would think it would be. Morgan Spurlock gained a total of 24 ½ pounds of eating fast food for a month. He had many medical problems on the way including, depression, chest pains, and fatigue. The documentary proved that eating fast food could in fact kill you. It has been heard that fast food has the chance to become the number one preventable death in the world. The documentary showed me how the fast food world is becoming a terrible thing.
The film shocked me in a number of ways. For me to see how many people are overweight in our country alone is massive. The facts presented throughout the movie showed some scary numbers. They said 1 out of every 3 children born will develop diabetes in the future if people consume the same amount of fast food that they are eating now. This issue is very scary to me. By these numbers hundreds of thousands of children would die each year just because they ate fast food when they can easily change the way of things. The main story of the film was a pair of girls suing McDonalds because it made them obese. The government turned down the case stating that the girls could not prove that McDonalds made them overweight. The government seems to be trying to change the ways fast food companies work, trying to seek healthier or less-calorie foods. They seem to know what is happening but aren’t working fast enough in my opinion to get our nation to a healthier state.
My eating habits are very good. My family usually cooks food from home but we do order out sometimes especially when we don’t have much time. I maybe have fast food 1 to 2 times a month, never more. My mother helps me have lots of healthy fruits and vegetables so I would say I have good eating habits. I can’t really relate to anything in the film besides eating some fast food now and then. I have never struggled with weight in my entire life. The film definitely changes my perspective about fast food places. It showed me how bad fast food can do to your body, not just your weight, but everything else. Morgan Spurlock felt depressed, had fatigue, and even mood swings. Fast food doesn’t just affect your weight but your emotions. No one in my family currently has any health issues. My dad has run into some blood pressure problems, but has been able to lower them.
In these past years, I would expect some people to eat more fast food because it is cheaper. The economy is so bad people will have to rely on fast food for their meals. But even for those who have the money, they should eat healthier. The fast food industry is becoming too much of a necessity for most people and I think they will only kill themselves if they continue.
