Seven Pounds
This article has a plot and movie summary (that doesn’t reveal the ending), a long synopsis of the movie with details, and an explanation for the title of the movie (which does contain spoilers; a notice will appear in the text before spoilers begin popping up).
Seven Pounds is a lovable movie that stars Will Smith playing as Ben Thomas and Rosairo Dawson who plays Emily Posa, the woman that Ben falls in love with. It was released in theaters in the USA on December 19, 2008. The film won and was nominated for several awards like the Black Reel, Image Award, and the Satellite Award.
Plot
The story starts out revolving around an IRS worker, Ben Thomas. He calls a man named Ezra Turner (Woody Harrelson) and commenting on Ezra’s blindness, along with insulting him. Ben shows that he really cares about what other people think when he goes to talk to a man named Stewart Goodman (Tim Kelleher) because he says that he can drastically change his conditions. While he’s there, he believes Goodman when he says that he is a good person. Then Ben talks to an elderly woman in the care of Goodman’s hospital and Ben couldn’t stand what had happened. Later again, Ben meets Emily Posa, a woman with a heart disease and a rare blood type. Ben starts to spend more time with her, and starts to fall in love with her. From here, the plot starts to wind into a spoiler fest and I cannot go on without ruining everything.
Synopsis
Tim Thomas (Will Smith) was in a car accident two years ago, caused by his reckless driving while using his mobile phone. Seven people died in that accident, including his fianceé, Sarah Jenson (Robinne Lee). A while after the crash he quit his job as an aeronautical engineer and focused on saving other people’s lives. He donates a lung lobe to Ben Thomas (Michael Ealy), who is his brother. He donates part of his liver to a child services worker named Holly Apelgren (Judyann Elder). He keeps searching for more deserving people for him to help and later finds George Ristuccia (Bill Smitrovich), who is a hockey coach, and donates a kidney to him. Tim donates bone marrow to Nicholas (Quintin Kelley), a boy with bone marrow cancer. He later finds Connie Tepos (Elpidia Carrillo), a woman with an abusive boyfriend that keeps finding her and her children. Tim gives her the deed to his beach house, the keys, and a note after receiving a call from her after being beaten by her boyfriend. He moves out of the beach house and into a motel with his pet jellyfish.

He steals his brother’s credentials and calls himself Ben while seeking out two more people to help. Using his brother’s IRS credentials, he searches and finds Ezra Turner (Woody Harrelson), a blind, vegan, meat salesman. Tim calls Ezra and insults him, trying to make Ezra mad, but Ezra doesn’t become angered and Tim deems him a good man.
Tim finds Emily Posa (Rosario Dawson) in a hospital with a heart problem and a rare blood type. She turns out to be a caring woman that is a self-employed card maker, that also owns a Great Dane named Duke. She later explains to Tim, whom she believes is Ben, that she got Duke because Great Danes are born with heart problems and don’t usually live longer than seven years. Despite how big Duke is, Emily decided to take care of him, so that there would be someone she was taking care of while others were taking care of her. The two start to fall in love with each other while spending more time together, not forgetting to mention that Tim fixes one of Emily’s card printers and weeds her garden. As they start to care more for each other, Emily’s condition worsens and Tim decides to donate.

After Ben goes to Tim and demands to have his credentials, Tim returns to his hotel room and fills a tub with ice water. He calls the police to report a suicide, calls his friend Dan (Barry Pepper), and climbs into the ice water. The ice water, acting as a way to preserve Tim’s organs after he has passes away, does not kill him and he did not expect so. His next action is to dump his poisonous jellyfish into the tub. Dan acts ans an executor of organs, making sure the Ezra gets Tim’s corneas and that Emily receives his heart.
After both Ezra and Emily recovered from their successful surgeries they meet at a concert, where Ezra was the actual pianoist, and they begin to talk.
Title Explanation:
Seven Pounds can have a few meanings to its name. One could be that you could consider that every person he helped was given a pound of him, literally in some cases.
Also, the average heart can weight between six to eight pounds, which in Tim’s case, is probably seven pounds.
