Pardon the pun, but Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven are taking another “stab” at the popular Scream franchise. While many might see this as a money making scheme, I for one trust these two men to make another enjoyable movie. While the original trilogy was kind of “out there” toward the end of it all, the films were still all highly entertaining.
Hayden Panettierre has signed on. So have Emma Roberts and Rory Culkin. The best news is that the three main characters are back. Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox Arquette will all reprise their roles. So really, as far as casting, where can this movie go wrong? Three originals and three decent newcomers to the franchise. I’d say it’s just the right mix to bring in the original crowd as well as a new crowd.
Craven is excited about Roberts being cast as a lead part, saying, “Emma’s talent, beauty, and range will add immensely to the sophistication, intensity, and fun of the Scream franchise as it returns to the screen once more.” However, I think if three old castmates weren’t in this, I probably wouldn’t bother. They will drive the film, even if their parts are smaller. Their story is the reason this movie exists at all.
It’s been 10 years since the events of the third movie. Sidney Prescott is getting her life back together, and then, of course, she is visited by the ghostface killer again. Other plot details are smartly being kept a secret, but no doubt that they will be leaked some way or another.
If you liked the three original, check this one out.
If you were too young to enjoy the originals, go out and rent them, enjoy, and go see Scream 4 when it’s released. With the Williamson/Craven team, you’ll at least be entertained all over again.
