Over The Top and Far From Over
Remembering Sylvester Stallone’s Brother in his Own Craft.

When Sylvester Stallone’s role as Rocky Balboa and John Rambo pushed him to stardom in that “Rocky” and “First Blood” series of movies, the world all watched in amazement for everyone no doubt had been entertained at the costs of their movie tickets. In the process the succeeding movies that Sly (as he was popularly called) did in different roles all commanded box office hits owing to that earned popularity. “Cobra”, “Judge Dredd”, “Demolition Man”, “Cliffhanger”, were just among a few that followed to give the actor an increase to his annual gross income and a steady grip on his acting career.
“Over the Top” is another Sylvester Stallone’s hit movie in 1987 and you may wonder why I linked it into “Far From Over” in the above blog title. I just have thought about a way of bringing in similarities in that “Far From Over” is actually a hit song which had launched Sylvester’s brother Frank Stallone, Jr. to stardom in his own craft, the music industry. Where both Stallones had been born on the same month in July, Sylvester was born the 6th of the month in 1946 making him 4 years older than Frank who was born on the 30th in 1950. “Far from Over” was composed and sang by Frank for the 1983 film “Staying Alive” with John Travolta on the lead role. The song made it to Billboard Hot 100 on the #10 list making it his only major pop hit (Wikipedia). Interestingly, Frank is also an amateur boxer in real life more real than the Rocky Balboa role his brother Sly had earned popularity in the “Rocky” movie series. For a feel of adrenaline rush as could be gained by listening to Frank’s hit song “Far from Over” in you tube, kindly click on this link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neNtMX-v2eY&feature=related). I couldn’t append a shortcut on the Online Editor’s edit menu (I wonder if everyone’s having the same problem).

An interesting read, I haven’t seen any Stallone films.
Interesting indeed my friend. Hope all is well.
Enjoyed Sly’s movies as re-runs on TV. Interesting to read about Frank with whom I was unacquainted. As for your problem appending a shortcut…I don’t know how to do that anyhow.
Who doesn’t love Rocky? And for the longest time, I never knew Sly had a brother…which is really silly. And Ken never ceases to make me laugh.
Ahh, Yes! Brother Frank. Also a great and under rated actor. He played the bartender in the movie ‘Barfly’ with Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway. The movie was based on the wild life and novels of Charles Bukowski, one of my literary heros. Great article Will. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. I never knew he was a musician with published music. Very informative article about a talented family for sure.
Eye opening did not know about his brother must get more info on that being a Stallone fan
thnx for the appetizer.
They are both gifted brothers! I love Rocky and Rambo =)
More news to me here. Not a huge fan of Sly films to be honest, but Copland was very good.
Well I learn something new everyday,I didn’t know stallone had a brother and nor did I know his brother did that song! Fab write as always Will! Very enjoyable and informative read!!
Interesting read and I’ll check it out! Thanks.
Very interesting facts indeed, lot of which were not known to me before about Rambo’s brother. I have always watched all Rambo’s movies. Thanks for sharing all the information.

Great read! I never even new Sly had a brother and I though he was younger that that! Thanks for telling me! x
It’s good to see an article about Frank. I liked this piece. Added you as a friend. I hope you can check out some more of my work. I will keep coming back for more.
I enjoyed your article. I’ve seen Over The Top (I have the dvd now). I haven’t heard of Frank’s song though. I didn’t see Staying Alive. I think that’s good that Sylvester Stallone wanted to include his brother in some of the movies that he did. I remember that he was in at least one of the Rocky movies too.
Very informative. I knew nothing about Frank. Thanks my friend.
nice write-up… Sylvester Stallone is such a good actor…
