With Daniel Craig’s big entrance as James Bond at the Olympic opening ceremony last Friday, the full trailer for November’s Bond film, “Skyfall,” arrived right on time.
Movie critics and fans were buzzing Tuesday as the two-and-a-half minute clip revealed more of the plot, plus a blond Javier Bardem as the villain Silva and Ben Whishaw as Q.
We find out that a hard drive containing the identities of MI6 agents embedded in terrorist organizations was lost, and then later shared with the world via YouTube. And although Craig’s 007 was off “enjoying death” early on in the trailer, before long Bond’s back in business.
After all, everybody needs a hobby, Bond says, and his just happens to be “resurrection.”
Time magazine notes that “with all the Bond bells and whistles on full display – Q, gun barrels, train-roof running, sexy showers, [and] witty banter,” it’s safe to assume that Bond will be able to tie up M’s (Judi Dench) loose ends.
Entertainment Weekly thinks the trailer also does a solid job of showing why Sam Mendes was a good choice for director. “He may have been an unorthodox choice,” EW says, “but the new trailer demonstrates a great appreciation for 007’s cinematic canon and the evolving action genre.”
MTV relishes Bardem’s appearance, suggesting that “above all, the new trailer for ‘Skyfall’ serves as good reminder of just how scary Javier Bardem can be.”
What do you think of the new “Skyfall” clip? The movie opens November 9.
