A friend recently brought her Neo Basic B3390N netbook to me that’s showing a failed hard drive. The curious thing was, when I removed the failing drive and put it in an enclosure, the drive worked fine. I tried putting back the drive on the netbook, and it worked the first time. But it failed again when I restarted the netbook. I can’t also reformat and reinstall on the drive, as it always fails when I reboot.
While looking for possible causes for this problem, I found out that the BIOS was set to AHCI instead of IDE. After setting the BIOS to IDE, I formatted the netbook and everything worked fine, even with restarts. As of now, the netbook is still working fine, no thanks to AHCI.
