My Name is Khan- A Review
I watched this movie at the Inox theatre in chennai. I would like to submit my personal review for this film.
The enthusiasm to see the film multiplied after Shiv Sena- a political outfit in Maharashtra created the best hurdles possible to restrain its release! Shahrukh Khan, who has unprecedented female following stands to lose out much of his popularity by portraying himself as a man with Asperger syndrome. While giving full credit for the hero for his performance, he has made this film to boost the morale of his Muslim brothers who find themselves in an awkward situation specially after the 9/11 attack on the U S A. May be he wants to prove a point against the American policies of strict scrutiny as Shahrukh himself was stripped several months back while entering the U S. This must be the motivating factor for the King Khan to go for a film of this kind trying to admonish the U S policies and the strict immigration laws which causes considerable discomforts to most and specially for those with Muslim names! One other actor who faced this embarrassment is Kamal Hassan, a south Indian actor who had such problems with the U S police when he said he came to the U S for “shooting”(a film) and that his last name was Hassan, enough to blow the lid of the police to grill the actor beyond imaginations!
Shahrukh takes up a job of selling beauty cremes and bumps into Kajol who is employed in a saloon as a beautician. Kajol who is deserted by her husband has an adorable son who is eventually killed by racists elements in the U S just because he tags the name of Khan to his name after Kajol marries Shahrukh khan.It is not understood as to why should marry a person with Asperger syndrome specially when she is otherwise happy and doing well? there is a good old Hindi saying ” aa Bel Mujhe Maar”! She now hates him and accuses him of carrying a name which is totally misunderstood by the world as that belonging to a terrorist and tells him to go and tell the U S President that he is not a terrorist! Our hero takes her word as that from the Koran and sets his journey to meet the President of the United States and comes across various hurdles and hardships on the way.
The director could have set better incidents rather than choosing an Hurricane hit village of American Africans who are left high and dry until Shahrukh reaches the scene faster than the U S Army or the Emergency handling units of the U S to help them rebuild their roofs! This plot is ridiculous as it is well known that U S cares for their people’s welfare more than any other country.
Finally Shahrukh succeeds in meeting the President of the U S and makes him tell that he is not a terrorist!
The entire plot seems to be a joke as the director has to explain as to why he chose this subject?
The music by Shankar Ehsan Loy can be attributed to the tributaries that flowed from the compositions of A R Rehman’s Jodha akbar!
The film may be inspiring for those Indians living out of the country as they would appreciate the efforts of an Indian to meet the U S President who succumbs in saying that Khan is not a Terrorist and derive ego satisfaction! The film has been made with ulterior motives for selection to win an Oscar as it shows the apathy of American Blacks suffer ring from an Hurricane fury and finally shows the first American Black President to say words of comfort to the Muslim community and assuage their hurt feelings!
sometimes you really ponder if the agitation by the Shiv Sena, a political party protesting against the release of this film was correct??
Those who came out of the cinema hall after watching this film were confused, whether the film was good or the film was bad??

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this review.
