Synopsis: A group of teenagers at a juvenile detention facility are sent to a small island for a teamwork exercise and are hunted by an archer seeking revenge for his son’s death.
Who’s in it? Sean Pertwee, Alex Reid and Karly Greene.
What I liked about this movie: The main reason I picked this film out is I liked the idea of the kids being hunted by an archer because it meant the attacks would be more of a surprise and it’s much harder to outrun an arrow than it is to run away from some guy with a knife or chainsaw. And, overall, the movie did not disappoint when it came to this. I especially liked how they also had to avoid a variety of traps and how the killer could hide only a few feet away without being detected.
The twist toward the end with one of the kids doing just as much damage as the guy hunting them was also pretty neat. It definitely kept the film from becoming too boring and predictable.
Another thing I liked about this movie is you don’t know for sure who is going to survive. There were a couple people my wife and I thought would make it off the island only to see them die.
What I didn’t like about this movie: I really didn’t care for the part about the hunting dogs. The ex-special forces guy out for revenge with a crossbow was good enough. The dogs were obviously there just for the extra blood and gore. Not to mention, nobody wants to see a dog get killed, even if it is in self defense.
Final Opinion: The movie was much better than I expected it to be. If it didn’t have the dogs, I probably would have given it 4 or even 5 stars.
My Grade: 3 stars.
