Movie Review of Sorority House Massacre

A review of the 1986 horror movie.

Synopsis: A college co-ed spends some time with friends at a sorority house only to discover it was once her home and her brother, who murdered the rest of her family, is now on his way back.

Who’s in it? Angela O’Neill, Pamela Ross and John C. Russell.

What I liked about this movie: We ended up watching this film because we were in the mood for an old-fashioned slasher flick. As far as that expectation goes, this movie exceeded it with plenty of potential victims (both male and female) and a killer who likes to use a hunting knife.

Also, unlike some other movies I’ve seen, the victims at least make an effort to either escape the house or fight back rather than just screaming, falling down or trying to hide under the bed or something like that.

What I didn’t like about this movie: The film doesn’t copy the plot of Halloween exactly. But, it was pretty obvious this film was heavily influenced by the other film because there were way too many similarities between this movie and Halloween and this movie and the earlier film Black Christmas.

Let’s put it this way, my wife didn’t have a chance to read the movie description and was correctly predicting most of the major revelations well before the movie confirmed them and that simply because she’s seen Halloween.

Final Opinion: There’s plenty of blood and gore but the “borrowed” plot didn’t do much to win me over.

My Grade: 2 stars out of a possible 5.
