Synopsis: 5 years after a screw up cost him his knighthood and job, secret agent Johnny English is called back into duty to help stop an assassination.
Who’s in it? Rowan Atkinson, Gillian Anderson and Roger Barclay.
What I liked about this movie: Much like the first movie, Rowan Atkinson does a fantastic job selling his Johnny English character. Some of the physical comedy he uses is downright fantastic and really makes the scenes work.
I also liked how the movie has his character grow a bit more. He still makes some major errors but there is some definite overall improvement too, especially when it comes to fighting. It was a little change that did manage to keep the character from getting stale by using the same clichés.
What I didn’t like about this movie: The film is a bit predictable. It wasn’t hard to figure out who the bad guy was and, as a result, there wasn’t much about the rest of the plot that wasn’t a surprise.
I also wasn’t crazy about the cleaning lady assassin character. She was OK at first. But, after a while, her character became a bit too cartoonish and just wasn’t as entertaining as I thought she would end up being.
Final Opinion: I had some doubts about this sequel but it was almost as good as the original and I do recommend watching it.
My Grade: 4 stars out of a possible 5.
