Synopsis: Two siblings traveling home from college are stalked by a stranger with supernatural powers after witnessing him throw bodies into the basement of an abandoned church.
Who’s in it? Gina Philips, Justin Long and Jonathan Breck
What I liked about this movie: It lost a little something the second time I watched it but the movie is one of those horror films that is genuinely scary. There are two reasons for this. First, some of the scenes just sneak up on you. For example, early on, the brother and sister are just driving and having a normal conversation when, out of nowhere, the bad guy’s truck pulls up behind them, blares its horn and tries running them off the road. In other words, you can go from dull to intense at any time.
The movie also manages to do a great job building up the suspense. That scene in the church had me on the edge of my seat because you know the “creeper” can show up at any moment and catch them. You just don’t see a lot of films going through the same effort. Most prefer to just rely on a lot of blood and gore.
What I didn’t like about the movie: Part of the intrigue early on in the movie is you don’t know a whole lot about who is stalking the brother and sister. Unfortunately the film does reveal more about who exactly the “creeper” is a bit too early on and, once it does, I think the movie does lose a bit of the intensity.
Final Opinion: If you haven’t seen this movie before, I recommend taking the time to watch it, especially if you want a film that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
My Grade: 4 stars out of a possible 5.
