Synopsis: 20 years after an economic collapse and coupe turn the United States into a dictatorship, Americans are entertained by a cross country race where the drivers earn points both for winning and for killing as many bystanders as possible.
Who’s in it? Sylvester Stallone, David Carradine, Simone Griffeth and Martin Kove.
What I liked about this movie: When I started watching this, I figured it would be somewhat lame and I was partially right about that. But, it was surprisingly entertaining because there are a couple different plots. You have the race, which is pretty much between Stallone and Carradine’s characters. But, at the same time, you have a rebellion going on and, because of that, there are people trying to stop the race completely.
I especially liked the little twists involving Carradine’s Frankenstein character. He starts out as the bad guy but, as the movie progresses and you learn more about him, he becomes the hero. I like movies that keep you guessing like that.
What I didn’t like about this movie: Mostly because of when it was made, the film was obviously dated and, because of that, I think some of the main plot points just didn’t have the same impact they might have 37 years ago. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the ending, mostly because it was somewhat predictable.
Final Opinion: The plot is somewhat bizarre but, overall, the movie isn’t too bad. I do recommend watching it if you get a chance.
My Grade: 3 stars out of a possible 5.
