Movie Report
There’s a new number one movie at the box office. Find out here which movie is number one.
I like watching movies and I love to find out what movies came in the top 10 at the box office. I check this out every week because I’m always curious which movie will be at the top. I wanted to share this with you all.
Movie Report
Monsters vs. Aliens came in at number one with over $58 million this weekend (March 27th – 29th ). This movie features creatures from the 1950s flicks and a showdown with invading extraterrestrials. It’s the biggest debut in 2009 so far. Who knows if that will hold up by the end of the year? The only other movie to come close to this opening is Watchmen, which debuted with $55.2 million. I guess a lot of people wanted to watch an animated movie this weekend since it made so much money. Some of the voices featured in the movie are Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, 24’s Kiefer Sutherland, House’s Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, and Steven Colbert.
Coming in at a distant number two was The Haunting in Connecticut. The movie made $23 million. I’m not familiar with this movie. It’s probably a horror movie, but I haven’t heard anything about it so I’m not sure what it’s about. Ordinarily, $23 million wouldn’t seem like a little number, but compared to the number one movie, it seems like it made nothing.
Last week’s number one movie, Knowing slipped to third place with over $14 million. It has now made $46.2 million in a little over 10 days. It took a dip considering it went from first place down to third place. I think this movie is in danger of being a tentpole movie. For those of you who are not familiar with the term, it means that it’s a movie with a big budget or a lot of hype, but it doesn’t make that much money.
Top 10 List:
1. Monsters vs. Aliens – $58.2 million
2. The Haunting In Connecticut – $23 million
3. Knowing – $14.7 million
4. I Love You, Man – $12.6 million
5. Duplicity – $7.6 million
6. Race To Witch Mountain – $5.6 million
7. 12 Rounds – $5.3 million
8. Watchmen – $2.755 million
9. Taken – $2.75 million
10. The Last House On The Left – $2.6 million

Hi Melissa. I’m doing well. I hope you are doing well too. I’m not sure if I will check out monsters vs aliens either. I don’t usually watch movies like that, but you never know. You keep up the writing too because you are also a talented writer.
Thanks for the tip, Morgana. I haven’t seen Knowing, but I bought Taken. I haven’t seen Taken yet so now I’m afraid of what to expect. LOL!
I really love reading your Movie Reports. I really like the manner in which you analyse each film and present all the plus factors and vica versa. superb. this movie, Monsters vs, Aliens sounds very good from the description. The idea to pit creatures from the 1950s against Ets’ is brilliant. Hope the animation is good too!
