Movie News

There’s a new number one movie at the box office for the week of April 10th. You can find out what the movie is in this edition of Movie News.

As I predicted last week, Fast & Furious is no longer the number one movie. There is a new number one movie at the box office.  That title belongs to Hannah Montana.  Hannah Montana: The Movie is the number one movie at the box office.  Hannah Montana made $34 million this past weekend.  The movie had an impressive one-day opening with over $17 million.  It’s the most money a G-rated movie made in one day.  I guess teens were more into Hannah Montana than they were in Fast & Furious. Hannah Montana is not exactly my cup of tea, but obviously a lot of people liked it enough to see it.  I’ve seen the show a couple of times, but I don’t think I’ll be checking out this movie.

Last week’s number one movie Fast & Furious slipped to number two with over $28 million. Since it’s opening, it’s made $118 million.  Believe it or not, I still haven’t seen this yet.  The movie lost a lot of numbers this past weekend.  This is the same movie that just debuted with over $70 million and now it didn’t even make $30 million.  That usually happens when action movies have a big opening weekend.

Monsters vs. Aliens is still holding steady at number three with over $22 million.  It hasn’t slipped that much since it’s debut.  People must really like this cartoon since it’s still pulling in pretty big numbers.  Number four is Observe and Report.  It debuted with over $11 million.  It’s a comedy about a mall cop trying to catch a flasher and get into the police academy.  It sounds something like Paul Blart: Mall Cop.  The only difference is that Paul Blart: Mall Cop did much better at the box office.  Rounding out the top five is Knowing which made over $6 million.

My prediction for this week, is that Hannah Montana: The Movie may have a second week at number one unless something new comes out this weekend that has a lot of fanfare. I will let you know in the next movie news article if I’m right.

Here is the top 10 list

  1. Hannah Montana: The Movie – 34 million
  2. Fast & Furious – 28.8 million
  3. Monsters vs. Aliens – 22.6 million
  4. Observe and Report – 11.1 million
  5. Knowing – 6.7 million
  6. I Love You, Man – 6.4 million
  7. The Haunting In Connecticut – 5.7 million
  8. Dragonball Evolution – 4.7 million
  9. Adventureland – 3.4 million
  10. Duplicity – 3 million

I would like to see Hannah Montanna it sounds like it will be good. Milly I just wanted to let you know that the Today website have just done the same to me that they did to you. I think it is truly awful considering the amount of time and committtment we gave them. What a way of treating people, but hey on to better and bigger things. These things happen for a reason. Great post as always.
