17 Again is no longer the number one movie. There’s a new champ at the box office. You can find out in this article which movie is number one.
In this week’s edition of Movie News, you will find out what the new number one movie was for this past weekend (April 24th – 26th).
As I predicted in last week’s Movie News 2 article, Obsessed was the number one movie at the box office. The movies stars Beyonce Knowles, Idris Elba, and Heroes Ali Larter. This is a new take on the movie Fatal Attraction. The movie came in at number one with over $28 million. This is the biggest opening with Beyonce as the star that she has had so far in her acting career. This is also the biggest opening for the last week in April releases ever. Obsessed was not screened in advance for critics, but those who did review it, didn’t like the movie. I think if it had a chance to be screened, it may not have fared as well. I can’t wait to see this movie. I have been looking forward to seeing it since I saw the previews for it. I’m glad that it was number one because I think it looks like a good movie.
Last week’s number one movie 17 Again, slipped to number two with over $11 million. The movie has made $40 million since it’s opening weekend. I wasn’t surprised that it slipped to number two. The amazing part is that it made it to number one last weekend.
There were three new releases this past weekend. Fighting starring Channing Tatum and Terrence Howard came in at number three with over $11 million. This is a movie about a rising star in NYC’s underground bareknuckle fight circuit.
The Soloist starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. came in at number four with over $9 million. It’s about a schizophrenic music prodigy living on the streets of Los Angeles who is befriended by a reporter. I knew that The Soloist wasn’t going to be number one, but I thought it would have made more money than it did. I was surprised by how little it made. I wonder if Jamie’s problems with Miley Cyrus had anything to do with how the movie did at the box office. Her fans might not have wanted to see the movie because of the things he said about her. Jamie made disparaging remarks about Miley on his radio show. He wanted her to take drugs and catch a disease. He also wanted her to film a porno movie. He has since apologized, but the damage may already be done.
Earth came in fifth place with over $8 million. This is a Disney nature documentary. The movie has already made $14.2 million since it’s debut on Wednesday. Disney wanted this movie to get a wide audience, which is rare for documentaries. I don’t really care for movies like Earth so this isn’t something that I will check out.
As I have in the past, I will make another prediction for this week. I think that Obsessed will lose the top spot. I think X-Men Origins: Wolverine will be the new number one movie.
