Movie News 12
There’s a new number one movie at the box office. Come find out what it is here in this article.
Last week’s number one movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince lost the spot to a new release. It slipped to number two with $30 million for the week of 7/24/09 – 7/26/09. I’m not surprised that it lost the spot since movies usually don’t stay number one for very long. I did think that this one would have had the spot for at least two weeks since it got a lot of buzz. Harry Potter lost 61 percent of its audience this past weekend even though it is a close second to the number one movie. So far, Harry Potter has made $222 million in just two weeks. It is also doing better than the fifth installment of Harry Potter sequels. Harry Potter will be available on more screens so it may make even more money. I haven’t seen any of these Harry Potter movies, but I heard a lot about them through word of mouth. I probably won’t be checking this out, but you all can feel free to let me know what you think of the movie.
The new number one movie at the box office G-Force. It made over $32 million. It features the voice of 30 Rock’s Tracy Morgan, Nicholas Cage, Penelope Cruz, etc. It is a combination of live action and computer-generated animation. It’s pretty much an adventure movie for kids as well as adults. This is not really my type of movie. I didn’t expect this to be number one, but I guess I was wrong. I figured it would have made it to number 3 at best. I should have known it would have done better since kid movies usually make a lot of money the first week.
Also new in theaters is The Ugly Truth, which debuted at number three with $27 million. This is a romantic comedy starring Grey’s Anatomy’s Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. This is a battle-of-the-sexes movie. I wouldn’t mind checking this movie out. I like to see romantic comedies and this one looks pretty good. I already know how it’s going to end, but I don’t mind checking it out anyway. Another new release Orphan came in at number 4 with over $12 million. This is a thriller about an evil adopted kid. The girl in this movie really seems scary. It reminds me of The Bad Seed. This is another one that I wouldn’t mind checking out.
Rounding out the top five is Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. It made $8 million at the box office.
My prediction for next week’s number one movie is G-Force or Funny People. Judging by the next group of releases, G-Force doesn’t really have much competition for the spot except for maybe Funny People. We’ll see if I’m right.
Here are the top 10 movies:
- *G-Force – 32.2 million
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – 30 million
- *The Ugly Truth – 27 million
- *Orphan – 12.8 million
- Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – 8.2 million
- Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – 8 million
- The Hangover – 6.5 million
- The Proposal – 6.4 million
- Public Enemies – 4.2 million
- Bruno – 2.7 million

Ice age 3 will be the only one i want to watch from the list because my son would love it.
I really enjoyed reading this latest edition of Movie News 12. I also feel the same as you that how did *G-Force reach the no1 spot? I suppose that there is still an audience for these movies and also that sometimes there isn’t much competition. It’s also amazing that it picked up – 32.2 million. I anxiously await the next edition of Movie News. Beautiful write!
