Movie News 11

There’s a new number one movie at the box office. You can check it out in this article.

Last week’s number one movie The Proposal lost the number one spot at the box office.  I predicted in my Movie News 10 article a couple of weeks ago that this movie would have been number one and I was right.  I redeemed myself from the wrong prediction that I had in Movie News 9

The number one movie for the week of 6/26/09 – 6/28/09 was Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with $109 million.  The movie came out last Wednesday and has made over $200 million since it’s opening.  Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has surpassed the original Transformers.  Transformers made $319.2 million by the end of its run at the box office.  Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has made over $390 million worldwide so far.  This doesn’t surprise me that this movie made so much money.  There’s a lot of hype surrounding this movie.  I haven’t had the chance to check it out yet.  I’m pretty sure if I want to see it, I would have to wait in long lines in order to check it out.

Last week’s number one movie The Proposal slipped to number two with over $18 million.  It was a distant second from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.  The Proposal lost 45 percent of its audience, which is standard for this type of movie.  It has made over $69 million since its debut.  This is the most Sandra Bullock’s movies has made in a while.  The Proposal didn’t stand a chance against the Transformer sequel.  More people were interested in the sequel than the other movies judging by the numbers at the box office.

Another new release at the box office was My Sister’s Keeperstarring Cameron Diaz.  This is a movie about a family dealing with a cancer-stricken daughter.  Word is the movie’s poster is misleading to the audience.  The poster has the mother and the cancer-stricken daughter appearing to be having a good time when the movie is nothing like that.  The movie came in at number five with over $12 million.  This movie looks a tearjerker to me. I might consider checking it out.

Rounding out the top five are: The Hangover came in at number 3 with $17 million bringing its total to over $183 million.  Up came in at number 4 with over $13 million bringing its total to over $250 million.

My prediction for the number one movie at the box office is Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.  I think it will remain number one, but it might take a hit because of Public Enemystarring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger.

Here are the top 10 movies at the box office:

  1. *Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – 109 million
  2. The Proposal – 18.6 million
  3. The Hangover – 17 million
  4. Up – 13.1 million
  5. *My Sister’s Keeper – 12.4 million
  6. Year One – 6.2 million
  7. The Taking of Pelham 123 – 5.45 million
  8. Star Trek – 3.71 million
  9. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian – 3.64 million
  10. Away We Go – 1.71 million
