What’s the number one movie at the box office? Come find out what it is here in this article.

The mighty have fallen.  I predicted in my Movie News 9 article that The Taking of Pelham 123 would be number one for the weekend of 6/12/09 – 6/14/09.  Unfortunately, I was wrong.  There was another movie that was number one.

The Hangover was number one at the box office this past weekend.  It made over $33 million.  Its two-week total is $105.4 million.  This movie has made a lot of money so far.  I didn’t think it would have made this much when I heard about this movie.  I figured it might have dropped by now.  I guess a lot of people are enjoying this movie.

Up came in a close second with over $30 million.  This movie has made $187.2 million in two weeks.

My last week’s number one prediction The Taking of Pelham 123came in at number 3 with $25 million.  I really thought this would take the number one spot.  At least it’s not a distant third.  This movie seemed to cater more to an older audience.  It held up pretty well considering who the target audience is.  Studio executives expect it to hold on pretty well at the box office despite the appeal of an older crowd.  This movie is about a dispatcher played by Denzel Washington who matches wits against John Travolta as the mastermind of a subway hijacking.  I think this movie looks pretty good and I wouldn’t mind checking it out.

The other wide release Imagine That bombed at the box office.  It debuted at number 6 with over $5 million.  This movie stars Eddie Murphy as a work obsessed father whose daughter’s three imaginary friends make him a financial whiz with their stock market picks.  This is another one of Eddie Murphy’s movies that didn’t fare well at the box office.  Eddie hasn’t had a big hit since Dreamgirls.  He might want to consider going back to the comedy circuit because his movie career is pretty much finished.  Here’s some trivia about Imagine That.  This movie reunites Eddie with his Beverly Hills Cop co-star Ronny Cox.

Rounding out the rest of the top five is Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian with over $9 million and Land of the Lost with over $9 million.

I think The Hangover might be number one again next week.  If not, my prediction will be that The Proposal starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds will take the number one spot.  I hope I’m right this time.

Here are the top 10 movies at the box office:

  1. The Hangover – 33.4 million
  2. Up – 30.5 million
  3. *The Taking of Pehlam 123 – 25 million
  4. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian – 9.6 million
  5. Land of the Lost – 9.2 million
  6. *Imagine That – 5.7 million
  7. Star Trek – 5.6 million
  8. Terminator Salvation – 4.7 million
  9. Angels & Demons – 4.2 million

So, hangover went up to no 1, and my favorite went down to no 7. It’s exciting to see a changeable sequence for those movies, just like looking for the hottest movie. Thanks for your great movie info here and give you “liked it”
