Marmaduke is a new movie released on June 4, 2010. It is created by 20th Century Fox and has been heavily advertised on channels like Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. Judging on just the commercials, I would have absolutely no idea what this movie is about. All I can tell is that it has a talking dog that does stuff (haven’t seen that before [Sarcasm.]) These commercials are just intended for little kids to go screaming to their parents that they want to see the movie with the doggy that talks. Pretty pathetic advertising if you ask me.
What is it actually about?
Well it wasn’t until I went to the internet that I found out that the movie is based on a cartoon strip created in 1954. That wasn’t told in the commercial! At least the website offers a short paragraph synopsis explaining all this. From the internet I also learned that the movie is based off a family moving to California. I’m sure this will be filled with terrible one-liners and stupid puns that fail to entertain older audiences.
Most (if not all) reviewers have given this movie terrible reviews. Even Robert Ebert gave it 2 out of 4 stars. The revenue of the film is also way below expected and took sixth place in opening day. I would probably avoid this movie if I was you. Hopefully Toy Story 3(D) will be good with all of the huge advertisements.
