Hitting the scene in the early 1980s Jim Carrey has made himself into quite an accomplished actor. He did some notable films in the early 80s but what really made him a popular acting icon was his work on Mad TV. It was here that he showed the world his true talent and quirky physical comedy which would catapult his career. He went on to play some of our favorite roles as Ace Ventura and Llyod Christmas (Dumb & Dumber). A Christmas Carol (2009)
Disney’s retelling of the Charles Dickens novel stars Jim Carrey, Jim Carrey and well Jim Carrey. The Classic is about Scrooge and how bitter he became about the wonderful Christmas holiday. Carrey shows off his incredible acting skills as he plays a number of roles in this film. He plays; Scrooge, Ghost of Christmas Past , Scrooge as a Young Boy, Scrooge as a Teenage Boy, Scrooge as a Young Man, Scrooge as a Middle-Aged Man, Ghost of Christmas Present, Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. A Christmas Carol was directed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to The Future, The Polar Express) and contains some truly amazing effects. A Christmas Carol is a great movie to watch to get you in the holiday spirit.
I Love You Phillip Morris (2009)
Carrey plays the deceptive Jay Russell who is a con-man on his deathbed telling his life story. Russell is your normal everyday police officer who is happily married who plays organ at the church and spends most of his free time looking for his biological mother. When he ends up getting into a car wreck, his life completely changes. Russell does a complete 180 discovering he is a gay man he leaves his wife and relocates to Miami. Althought life is great at first, Russell quickly discovers that this new life is quite expensive directing him into the life of a con-man to keep up. Russell ends up getting found out and sent to prison where he is introduced and later falls in love with Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). Realizing his love for Morris, Russell will go to great lengths to be with his true love. This movie might not be Carreys best work but it has a few laughs.
Yes Man (2008)
In Yes Man Carrey plays the ordinary Carl Allen who is an ordinary banker who is down on his luck. Carl attends a motivational seminar in which everyone is convinced to say “yes” to everything. When Carl agrees to give the idea a shot, he sees his entire life begins to improve. He gets a promotion at work and a beautiful new girlfriend. Although life seems to be looking up, Carl quickly finds that the new lifestyle that he has obtained is impossible to keep up with. This role seems to fit Carrey perfectly as he returns to his happy go lucky comedy acting. The movie is reminiscent of Bruce Almighty that he starred in five years before this movie. The movie was very predictable but is worth a watch if you have nothing to do on a Friday night.
