Jane Russell plays Dorothy Shaw, a performer, who acts as chaperone for her friend, Lorelei Lee, played by Marilyn Monroe, who is to be married to Gus Esmond, unfortunately, his father does not trust Lorelei Lee, and so he sends a detective Ernie Malone to follow them. Dorothy and Ernie fall in love. Dorothy is absolutely crushed when she learns Ernie is just doing his job and gets Lorelei in trouble when she meets Piggy and she is interested in his wife’s diamond tiara while Piggy becomes interested in Lorelei.

This movie is known for the number “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” performed by Marilyn Monroe which Madonna used in a music video. Although the rest of the musical numbers are not as infamous, they are excellent. My personal favorite is “When Love Goes Wrong.”

There is love on the high seas and in Paris in this picture. It is the blending of sensuality of Monroe and Russell that makes this movie colorful. This movie is definitely a classic.
