Harry Potter: The Three Illegal Curses

As every Potter fan knows, the Harry Potter series is based upon wizards and spells. There are many spells, useful spells, which are taught to young sorcerers at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. These spells include disarming spell, Expelliarmus, the stunning spell, Stupefy, attraction spells, accio, and many others. However, there are 3 spells that are forbidden, and using them wins you a lifetime prison in Azkaban.These spells are mostly used by The Dark Lord, Voldemort, or his Death Eaters.

The following are the 3 Illegal spells:

1. The Imperius curse

The imperius curse allows the caster to gain complete control over the victim. The victim is left very weak after the spell is lifted, close to death. The curse can be fought, but it requires a lot of will power to do so. The incantation for this spell is “Imperio”.

2. The cruciatus curse

The cruciatus curse is used to torture people. It is a highly dangerous spell, and can even cause permanent insanity. This curse was used by Bellastrix on Frank and Alice Longbottom, which resulted in their permanent insanity. To cast the spell successfully, the caster must have a desire to cause excruciating pain upon the victim, or it will not work. The incantation for the cruciatus curse is “crucio“.

3. The Killing Curse, Avada Kedavra

Avada Kedavra is the most powerful and deadly spell in the world of wizards. It is mostly used the Dark Lord, Voldemort. The spell requires a very powerful wizard to perform, or it will not work. The spell was used by Lord Voldemort to kill James Potter and Lily Potter, and attempted to kill Harry with it as well, but it backfired, and killed Voldemort Instead. The Avada Kedavra curse causes an instant and painless death, with no damage to the victim. The incantation for the spell is “Avada Kedavra”.
