Five Movies to Watch on Fast Forward- Featuring Movies Starring Collin Farrell, Christian Bale, Ewan Mcgregor, Harrison Ford and More

This is a collective review of five awfully slow-paced or not-so-intriguing films with good casts. The movies feature Collin Farrell, Christian Bale, Ewan McGregor, Harrison Ford, Joaquin Phoenix, Gwyneth Paltrow and more.

Let’s face it. All actors have made some bad, unbearable or well-meaning yet very slow-paced films. Of course every one’s taste is subjective. However while I enjoy dramas, good absurd comedies or some very slow films, these movies are deeply flawed. I’d suggest you stayed away, but if you find yourselves watching the DVD and realize you can’t take the whole movie, do yourself a favor. Use the fast-forward button.

*The New World starring Christian Bale and Colin Farrell
This is a Pocahontas, Mr Smith story. It also includes a rational marriage decision made by her- she marries a guy who loves her and who she comes to love. Even though Colin Farrell plays Smith and the other guy is Christian Bale, this is one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. Rated 6.9 on IMDB. The movie relies too much on poetic tones, his male leads, love story and the scenery. However there is nothing exciting about this film. I am not an absolute fan of either actor but they have made some pretty entertaining/engaging films. This is not one of them. Plus, the movie has one of the ugliest female leads ever.

Want to enjoy original, compelling and thrilling Bale? Watch Equilibrium. Or All the Little Animals. Or Public Enemies. And yes, even though I am not the biggest Batman fan, but at least Batman films are entertaining. They have action and substance.

Want some great Colin Farrell?

Try Pride and Glory, it comes with Edward Norton and Jon Voight.

Try Phonebooth, it comes with Kiefer Sutherland and a great script.

*Incendiary:

I suggest most Ewan McGregor’s should be watched in this manner, apart from Big Fish. And I have high hopes for The Ghost Writer as it comes with Kim Catrall, Pierce Brosnan and Timothy Hutton. But even though you love Ewan, there is a chance Incendiary will bore you or make you laugh. But it shouldn’t, as it is supposed to be a thought-provoking drama. Same goes for I love you Philip Morris. These two are featured in my Ewan McGregor tribute.

* Two Lovers:

Joaquin Phoenix is a terrific actor. He also co-stars and performs brilliantly in one of my favorite dramas ever- Return to Paradise. And I love Gwyneth Paltrow. But this is one of the slowest, least interesting, least romantic and passion-lacking love triangle I have seen. It is rated 7.3 on IMDB but don’t say I didn’t warn you. You might be bored by his movie – to your very core.

If you want to have some great fun with Paltrow involved, watch Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

Watch Possession for romance, Shallow Hal for comedy. If you want an interesting love triangle, watch A Perfect Murder. It at least comes with Michael Douglas and a gorgeous Viggo Mortensen.

* Random hearts starring Harrison ford and Kristin Scott Thomas

This has interesting premise. It was promising. Two great actors. Interesting story: a cop’s (Harrison Ford) wife dies on a plane crash, along with the husband of a politician (Kristin Scott Thomas). However as they later find out, their spouses knew each other and were having an affair. Imagine the bitter intrigue, the weird fascination with each other and the possibility that the deaths aren’t a coincidence…

The movie, though, drags on and on, the chemistry and attraction are off and well, it is powerfully boring.

* Dark Matter starring Meryl Streep and Aidan Quinn

Based on a very tragic true story, this is the tale of a brilliant Chinese student who is misunderstood and under appreciated by his professors. And when the bumps in the road get too much, he kills people

Yes, this is a spoiler but this much is included imdb’s main page for the movie. This is not a movie you watch to guess the ending but a movie to see how the story and ending are handled. But the movie falls a victim to the director’s insistence on trying to make art for art’s sake. Psychology and acting become tools and take the background. Tension never builds up and instead of terrifying you, it bores you.

This is my least favorite Streep and Quinn films. Sure, they act well- when they are allowed to engage in the story that is.

Either don’t watch or watch in fast forward.

Great article. I agree with your selection, although I always have time to watch Harrison Ford.

I like Harrison Ford and most of his movies but this one is just….it didn’t take advantage of the leads or the plot.

    thanks for the comment:)

A great set of reviews, though I am disappointed about the Meryl Streep film. I might still go and see it as she is such a great actor. Good work.

Thanks, Christine. She is marvelous but I am afraid this is not a good film. But yes, still Streep fans can explore it. But if you get bored, remember what I said about the fast forward button:)
