Five Fun Heath Ledger Movies
Frankly, I am more concerned about writing Heath’s more entertaining work than his more independent and/or dramatic movies. That being said, please enjoy your list.
The Dark Knight

Yes it is so obvious, but I’m pretty sure the hardcore fans would be really pissed, had I not included it. Now, of course the movie has good effects and a generally dark atmosphere. Christian Bale’s Batman/Bruce Wayne is humorless and pretty flat. I have been told many times that this is the way it should be. But of course his flatness would not have saved the movie if it didn’t have Joker (Heath Ledger) as the movies’s baddie. Joker is a psycho and he provides the movie some sick entertainment. And we love him for it. Frankly, Joker deserved a more worthy opponent. And the movie would have been more fun if the Harvey Two Face sub-plot hadn’t been forced upon as. But, it is Heath’s Joker and it is one mayhem to enjoy.
Casanova

Who better than Heath to play the notorious, sexy and cheeky seducer Casanova? Of course he meets his match eventually, in the form of Francesca Bruni (Siena Miller)- a beautiful and smart young woman who is way too modern for her time and has a few secrets up her sleeve. Trying to get Francesca to get to love him will be the biggest challenge, and pleasure of his life…
This movie is so much fun! It is funny, romantic, a period piece set in Italy and is directed by Lasse Hallstrom (director of the lovely Chocolat) and it has the eye candy. What’s not to like?
10 Things I Hate About You

There is not a single thing I hate about this movie. It has Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon- Levitt. The rest of the cast is all great, the soundtrack is so energetic and fun and the story…is well…it ain’t like any other high school movie you have ever seen. You can read my detailed movie over here on my blog.
A Knight’s Tale

Yes, I love period pieces. A Knight’s Tale is set in a time where knights existed and jousting was like the coolest things you could excel at. William decides to prove himself after the knight he is working for dies. Of course he hides the fact that he is an ordinary peasant. His life gets very exciting from then on. He gets to fight powerful competitors- one of them being Count Adhemar (Rufus Sewell). Things get even more complicated when William falls for Jocelyn, the girl Count is also interested in. Fun and entertaining all around. And you will have a great soundtrack with David Bowie and Queen. Don’t ask how, it just works.
The Patriot

Well, I do love epic movies, and Mel Gibson. So bring in Heath Ledger for more of solid acting, and Roland Emmerich to direct a glorious movie, and well.. The equation basically rocks. Mel plays the father who doesn’t want his eldest son (Heath Ledger) to fight the English. Well, he doesn’t listen and you know it is kind of Mel’s specialty fight dirty, fight well and kick the bad guys’ ass when a loved one is threatened. Cool movie. It is included in my list of 11 Great Mel Gibson movies. The writer/director is Brian Helgeland, who wrote Conspriacy Theory, and co-wrote/directed Payback- both movies are listed in the 11 movies list.

Great round up of Keith Ledger films. Every time I see him it makes me sad he is dead, such a tragedy.
I know, it sucks. He was just so young. It is also awful not knowing the real reason. There is just something fishy about the whole thing. : (
Nice piece…
He was great as The Joker and deserved the Oscar.
He was the perfect Casanova, although I did not like the movie, which was not a true love story; it was even immoral in some ways. But, of course, it describes the real Venice in those days.
10 Things I Hate About You, I cannot say much, really… I never watched the movie from start to finish. I tried twice to watch it, but stopped half way through… I found it boring and childish.
A Knight’s Tale is one of my Top Ten; I simply adore it !!!
And The Patriot is a Masterpiece… both Mel and Heath were simply “Gods” in the movie. I cannot give 5 stars for this film, because it deserves 100.000 stars !!!
Heath was best known for his Joker role in Batman but I love him in Ten Things I Hate About You and Brokeback Mountain.
@Patricia: I agree with you on The Patriot and A Knight’s Tale.
I definitely promise to watch Four Feathers.
I love how Venice looked and despite all the “immorality”, I love a good period piece with good scenery, great music, old-fashioned chivalry, exciting love story and beautiful actors
@8Shei8: Yep, I have loved him since 10 Things I hate about you. I think anyone who discovered him with just The Dark Knight, has been too late
My favorite was , ” A Knights Tale”. His death was so uncalled for, he left us in his prime. His ending in itself is a sad tale.
I know, I really miss him.
I love A Knight’s Tale: it is made for me- a period piece with a kick-ass rocknroll soundtrack….
I found him in 10 things! then had to watch a Knights tale about 60 times because my hubby loved it. Just came back to view this again.
Ha ha, glad your husband has good taste ; )
I have A Knight’s Tale soundtrack. I just love everything about that movie ; )
Nice share
Good Work
Very disturbing that an actor of such promise had his career and life with his young family cut short. I deeply respect his work – he was a committed and daring actor:)
The Dark Knight.. I just love that movie!
I must admit, it did start off rather slow, but The Dark Knight is so different from all the others (Batman Movies) before it…
@ fashiongirl: you are on about the slowness and how it is different.; )I think I just favor his movies more..
@Mila: I have so much respect for him. I just wish his dedication hadn’t killed him…
A great loss for movie industry that he’s dead.
I’ve watched and loved all of these movies. But my favorite among them would be A Knight’s Tale and the Dark Knight. It’s terrible that he died so young, he’s one of the best young actor ever.
Yeah, I really miss him too…: (
