Film: The Worst Money Making Movie of All Time

We know the biggest money making blockbusters of all time but what about the flops? Which movie made the least money out of any movie released at the box office?

Not many people actually realise this but the movie you are all holding your breath in anticipation for is a film that made just $30. No, you read it right, $30. It made $20 on its opening weekend.

The movie is Zyzzyx Road (2006), a thriller about the murder of a man who gets in the way of a steamy love affair. Zyzzyx Road stars big name actor Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) and Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan) and of course is set in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The film was released in just one movie theatre in Dallas, Texas and was screened only once a day for six days. A measly six people attended the screenings. The independent film was produced for around $1.2 million and did go on to make $40,000 in overseas viewings.

Supposedly nobody was actually supposed to see the theatrical version of the movie but it was released in Dallas to fulfill a Screen Actors Guild agreement apparently to be able to pay the actors at a lower rate, hence little marketing and six patrons.

It doesn’t matter why it only made $30, the point is, it only made $30.
