Famous Celebrities and Starring Roles

Sometimes, a famous actor/actress can over or even under play the part causing the entire movie to flop and yet, on the other hand, a lesser known actor can play so well it can torpedo his or her career, rating that actor among the best and giving the movie a top rating.

We all have our own pic of famous actors and or actresses and their most famous roles. Most often a famous role is what makes an actor standout or in some cases a famous actor is what makes the role standout. Either way, it can make or break the flick. Sometimes a famous actor/actress can over or even under play the part causing the entire movie to flop and yet, on the other hand a lesser known actor can play the part so well it can torpedo his or her career, rating that actor among the best and giving the movie a top rating. Whether actor/actress or role, if they want the movie to be a success then they better bring something compelling to the screen.

I have compiled a list of 10 actors/actresses and their most compelling roles that made the movie. These are only roles that I have chosen, however, you will find that some of these brilliant actors have played in more than one compelling role and or movies.

Jack Nicholson

Everyone loves Jack Nicholson, especially in the movie the, “Shinning.” This is one movie where good-old Jack Nicholson, made a compelling role. Playing a maniac really suits him at least in this movie. Jack coined the phrase, “Here’s Johnny,” in the movie.

Al Pacino

Al Pacino played an insane doped out drug dealer in the movie, “Scarface.” This was one movie that definitely put Al Pacino, on the map. He was vicious, controlling and willing to waste anyone who got in the way of his rising drug empire. He also coined the phrase, ” I want you to meet my little friend.

Anthony Hopkins

Anthony Hopkins is another choice of mine because he played the unforgettable, diabolical, “Hannibal Lecter,” in the movie, “Silence of the lamb.”

Kathy Bates

Kathy Bates played an obsessed, insane fan in the movie, “Misery.” She is one of my choices because she played the role so good, she, herself, made you cringe whenever you seen the movie. She is truly an outstanding actress.

Robert De Nero

Robert De Nero, played a chilling and religious killer in the movie, “Cape Fear.” For that compelling part he makes my list. Another role that made, Robert De Nero stand out was, “Taxi Driver

Christopher Walken

Christopher a remarkable actor best known for his bad guy roles made my list for his chilling portrayal in the movie, “At Close Range.”Another compelling actor.

Javier Bardem

Javier Bardem, was one of those actors who was basically unknown until he played the homicidal killer in the movie, “No Country For Old Men.” His portrayal in that movie as the elusive homicidal killer sent chills up your spine and earned him a seat among the best.

John Malkovich

John Malkovich is an exceptional actor and one of my favorites who is so underrated. He is among my list for playing a chilling cold blooded killer in the movie, “Con Air.”

Kevin Spacey

Who could forget, Kevin Spacey in the movie, “Unusual Suspects?” He played an outstanding mastermind behind a disguise that pulled off one of the best scenes in a movie. He is an awesome actor all around and one who is known for other compelling roles also.

10- Benecio del Toro

Belnecio Deltoro is another top notch actor that has played compelling roles in several movies that I like, including: “Unusual Suspects” and the movie”Traffic,” but my favorite is his role in the movie, “Sin City.”

Those are my 10 most unforgettable actor/actresses and their most compelling roles that actually made or helped make the movie, at least for me.

Great choices Debra. Jack Nicholson, Robert De Nero, and Al Pacino, are legends in the movie industry. Kevin Spacey and Christophe Walken have made many great movies. One of the best acting jobs that i have witnessed was by Kevin Spacey in the movie Kpax, which also starred Jeff Bridges. The first movie i ever saw Christopher Walken in was Deadzone, which also featured a young Martin Sheen. Very good article Debra.

  27. Posted February 24, 2009 at 10:59 pm

All of these men and women acted well in some movies. Hannible Lector is a mystery. I wonder if he is such a scary jerk in real life.

Yes… I meant Anthony Hopkins above.

Really interesting article. Great picks. One of my favorite actors though – aside from some of your picks – is Morgan Freeman, espcially in The Shawshank Redemption with Tim Robbins (another under rated actor).

Thank you guys for all your comments and Claudette, you are so right, Morgan Freeman is a brilliant actor who definitely deserves much more credit than he gets.
