Dorian Gray: Oscar Wilde’s Portrait of Desolation
Be Sure, your Sins Will Find You Out!
After a lifetime spent indulging fleshly “pleasure” Dorian Gray knew there would be a price to pay. Oscar Wilde’s tragic masterpiece tells the story of a soul lost to reprobation and the lusts of the flesh. At the end of the film it was quite clear that Dorian would have given anything for the return of his soul.
If there are lessons to be learned from Wilde’s portrait of Desolation, it is that nobody can run forever. Eventually, your sins will find you out. You may think sin is fun for a season, but have you ever considered the cost? Dorian died a broken man, and that is what happens when one is self-indulgent, without restraint, with no self control.
Remember, God gives us conscience for a reason, conscience is a blessing, don’t abuse it.
God Loves us and puts His laws in place to protect us. As fallen, sinful creatures, we often NEED to be protected from ourselves. What some people call tyranny, I recognize as merciful. If God just let man indulge themselves without restraint or restriction, man would destroy himself.
My point in writing this is to say: Guard your Heart, Search your Soul, and may God keep you well.
