Have you seen the movie Death Race yet? If you haven’t seen it yet, you are missing out on a great movie. I came across it in the iTunes store, I rented it and it was worth every penny. The lead role, Jensen Ames, as played by Jason Statham. He is an Ex-race car driver that is framed for the murder of his wife.
The setting of the movie starts in the United States in 2012 and the economy is worse than ever after the stock market crashes. There are so many prisoners in jails, that private companies are hired to make jails. One of the companies is terminal island prison. In order to raise funds for the prison the prison holds races in the prison between different prisoners racing called Death Race. Viewers at home have to pay per race to watch the races on T.V.
After Jensen is arrested and brought to jail the plot regains six years later in jail. On the previous death race, Machine gun Joe, played by tyrese Gibson, and the prison favorite Frankenstein, who wears a mask to keep his identity a secret. The race between the two ends in a bloody death ending race. Hence the name Death Race. Frankenstein eventually dies in the hospital later in the race.
When Jensen arrives at the prison he gets in a fight almost right away. The head of the Death Race assoation, Hennessey, played by Joan Allen, tells Jensen that an aran gang, who he got in fight with earlier. Will kill him without Hennessey’s help. With that being said, Hennessey offers Jensen to become the new Frankenstein. Because of Frankenstein’s mask, no one will know that he has been switched.
There is a policy at the Terminal Island Prison, if anyone can survive and win 5 races, they are freed. Frankenstein has already won 4 races, so all Jensen has to do is win one race. Under those conditions does Jensen accept. Jensen wants to get out of jail to go see his baby girl.
For death race there are 3 different rounds in each race. The first 2 rounds are elimination, the goal: eliminate or kill as much competition as possible, also to stay alive. Also in the race there are 3 power-ups to help the racer. On the cars there are also shields, guns, spikes and whatever else the racer can use to get rid of other racers. The 3 power-ups are swords, shields and death heads. To get these power ups 4 wheels have to roll over the light on the ground. The swords activate offence, the shields defense. A death head releases a giant wall with spikes, likely to crush any car behind it.
There are many obstacles that Jensen has to overcome including, machine gun Joe and tricks behind the scenes to boost ratings. I loved this movie and I couldn’t keep my eyes off it. The movie keeps you on your toes the whole time and is a great movie. I would rate this movie a perfect 5 out of 5 stars.
