What am I more excited for?
1) Leo in awesome period suits of the turn of the century late 1800s and of the Jazz Age?
2) Leo reprising the leads in two of my favorite books (Devil in the White City and The Great Gatsby)?
3)Leo using his own money to buy these productions and what not (usually when an actor does this you know its going to be good)?
4) All of the above?!
DING DING DING!
The Devil in the White City is a historical novel based on the serial killings of H.H. Holmes in Chicago around the 1983 World’s Fair. The book also concentrated on the mechanical building of the fair, however I doubt that will get much coverage in the movie. H.H. Holmes is a dark, twisted character who used secret chambers and paths within the walls at his giant mansion to trap and kill his victims. The thought of seeing Leo in such a dark, mad role is exciting. I hope that they continue his story from after the fair and into his trial where it gets really weird!
The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite movies and I have been waiting to see this done the right way on the big screen.Jay Gatsby is a rich man known for throwing the best parties in the Prohibition Era. Nick (who narrates the book) finally makes it over to a party and befriends Jay Gatsby. After meeting many people at the party Nick gets sucked into the scene while at the same time the scene is falling apart. Affluence at its best, I can not wait to see who sidles up next to Leo for this one. Rumors of Natalie Portman (my choice), Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley for his love interest makes this even more interesting.
Only downfall is that these two movies is we should have another year and a half, two years until we see these movies. With Leo at the helm, I have no doubt they will be good. I wonder if they will follow some of the devices the original authors’ used. For instance I wonder if Leo will use all the symbolic bright colors in Gatsby, and if he will focus in on Holmes’ past and disturbing there as the source of his madness like was done in the book.
Time will tell. Only problem is it’s too much time!
