It is essential that everyone knows the purpose of the Joker in “The Dark Knight”.
Do you believe he was just there to cause chaos and spread madness? That was the purpose of the Scarecrow in “Batman Begins”.
No, the Joker’s purpose was solely to have Batman kill him. To provoke Batman into killing his nemesis is the greatest method of corrupting the incorruptible. The Joker was certainly crazy, crazy enough to lay down his life in an attempt to achieve such a hardy task. Batman’s one rule is to never kill. To make him break that lone rule is to break the man himself. The Joker simply desires to break people, just as he most likely was broken at some point in his life.
Sadly, the Joker never achieved his goal of corrupting Batman. It is also disappointing that the Joker will not return in the next Batman movie as was planned (obviously due to Heath’s untimely death).
