Censorship in Movies 8

Using children in an adult’s movie is entirely different than using adults as the main characters.

I think that as Christians we should strive and look forward to changing the world by reform using our Christian faith, but not to become megalomaniacs about it.  We must remember that we are still fallen humans, and that not everyone is destined to become great leaders/figures of Christian change in the world like John Calvin or Martin Luther.

If I were a film director interested in making horror films, I would have a few options.  Either I’d make a scary movie simply because I enjoyed making movies that scare the pants off unsuspecting viewers, or because I may want to use the horror genre to make a point.  Horror films with actual meaning hidden behind the scares can convey a message with frightening results.  It’s a shame that most horror films are crap.  One book I recently read last semester went by the title of House of Leaves.  The novel to some is described as a ‘horror novel’, and while this is true to an extent, the horror is only one piece of a much larger puzzle incorporating romance, love, God, and nothing.  Unfortunately, the book presents a puzzle than cannot be solved, which may be why it terrifies those who read it.

Using children in an adult’s movie is entirely different than using adults as the main characters.  Using children allows for unique situations due to the fact that children have a completely different psychological mindset than their adult counterparts.  Children are also innocent, something that most adults have lost.  This innocence can be used to the directors advantage when trying to make a statement on society or government through the movie.

I’m not trying to be critcal, but I’m a bit confused as to what your title ‘Censorship’ has to do with the content about Christianity and the use of child actors and horror films? I’m just not really seeing the link…

These are all very interesting. I’ve enjoyed reading each one.

I`m a little bit lost too because the articles were not published in order and there was no indication of a sequel in previous articles.. I just waited for this last piece before I read everything in order. You got nice reviews but I hope that there`s another installment to summarize everything and link them.

My apologies if some of these articles seem off topic with censorship. They were done for a class I took with the underlying theme being movie censorship.

Very interesting. I’m not really into the horror genre, but I do love a good mental thriller.
