British Actors We Love 3: Clive Owen, Ben Barnes and Matthew Macfadyen

3rd installation to my article series British Actors We Love, featuring: Clive Owen, Ben Barnes and Matthew Macfadyen.

I know it has been a long time but my typing can’t simply catch up with my ideas. But here I am with some more British actors we love. The first 2 articles are below; in case you are wondering who are listed.

The British Actors We Love, Part 2

PART 3

Clive Owen

Frankly, when I had first seen him in Closer I had hated the guy. I hated the movie, its story and characters. If there is such a thing called falling in hate with something, that’s how I felt about Closer. So I stayed away from Clive’s movies a long time. But then I watched Beyond Borders by chance and I stopped hating the guy. Of course the movie was good and the story was really humane. And there was some passionate romance involved. So I decided to check out his other movies. And the more I watched, the more I liked the guy. Aside from Closer and some other movies, he picks damn good films to appear in.

Here are the ones I covered so far (you can click on the titles to go their individual review pages):

Beyond Borders

Shoot ‘Em Up

Elizabeth The Golden Age

The Boys Are Back

Inside Man

The International

Derailed

Duplicity

I absolutely adored all these movies, but if I absolutely had to choose,I’d say Inside Man. Amazing plot, great direction and Denzel Washington and Jodie Foster are in it too. Great thriller, one of the smartest heist movies. But, if you want mindless entertainment and don’t even want to stop for a sec, then Shoot ‘em up is your film.

Matthew Macfadyen

I love Matthew Macfadyen. I am afraid I only saw one movie of his. Every time I am tempted to check his movies, I hesitate. Because I am afraid it will lift the spell. Am I sounding like an idiot? Sorry. It is the Pride and Prejudice fan in me talking. You see, with Clive- I had nothing to lose. He couldn’t have played in a movie I would despise more than Closer. With Matthew, I adore the movie and his role. I think Pride and Prejudice fans will understand me on that one.

Ben Barnes

Ben Barnes is a talented young English man who I first watched in Stardust. His was a rather small role but very significant. He suited the role just fine and I later watched Easy Virtue and Dorian Gray with him. In both films, his co-star is Colin Firth. I haven’t written a post on Easy Virtue yet. Until then, here is the link to my Dorian Gray post.

So far, all three have been great in their genres. Looking forward to watching other projects of Barnes.

More Brits are on the way.

Absolutely love Matthew Macfadyen too, also because of Pride and Prejudice. You should see him in his other roles too…. it makes you appreciate how talented he is. I can’t wait to see him as Prior Philip in the miniseries The Pillars of the Earth in July on Starz.

Thanks for commenting, Kathy. In that case, I will get over my reservations and see him in his other roles too. I know he is talented. Otherwise, he woudn’t have made such an amazing Darcy;)

Don’t be afraid! Dare to watch other Matthew Macfadyen movies. If in Pride and Prejudice he bewitched you…

…he will mesmerize you as Paul Prior in In My Fathers Den’

…he will make you feel immense tenderness as the Mr. Clennam in the TV series Little Dorrit (written by Charles Dickens).

Each of his performances will make you want to see more of him. We, his fans, are anxiously waiting for his next projects:

    1) He will be Prior Philip in the made for TV adaptation of Ken Follets The Pillars of the Earth.

    2) He will be Logan Mountstuart in the made for TV adaptation of William Boyds Any Human Heart.

I know, Layne!!!! He is gorgeous and talented. Funny thing is, he didn’t look half as good 20 years ago. Some men are really all about “wine”;)
