Box Office Results January 23rd Weekend &Ndash; No Strings Attached, The Green Hornet & The Dilemma

Those of you looking for a place to hide out from the winter weather this weekend might have chosen to catch one of the many great films current in theaters.  It was also a great way for you football fans to keep your mind off of Sunday’s great football games.   A huge congratulation goes out to the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers who are headed to Dallas for the Super Bowl in two weeks.  Those of you wondering what happened at the box office this weekend check out some of the top performers.

The romantic comedy No Strings Attached starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher won to top box office spot for the January 23rd weekend.  The Ivan Reitman directed movie made just over $20 million in its debut weekend right in line with the early projections for the film.  The star studded film created some good word of mouth in its opening weekend and should see continued success over the upcoming weeks.

Now in the films second week in theaters, The Green Hornet was able to hold onto the second place box office spot for the weekend. The new superhero comedy starring Seth Rogen, Jay Chou and Christopher Waltz added $18.1 million to bring the two week earnings total to $63.4 million.   Although this film is off to a good start it will be difficult to top Set Rogen’s Knocked Up which made $149 million.

Losing quite a bit of speed but still hanging onto the third place position for the weekend was The Dilemma starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James.  Many audience members are not quite sure what to expect from the film causing the word of mouth to be mixed on this one.  The Dilemma was able to make $9.7 million for the weekend bringing the films two week earnings to $33.4 million.   Unfortunately for Ron Howard it looks like this film will continue to slide down the charts over the upcoming weeks.
