The results are in for the movies at the box office for the week of 10/30/09 – 11/1/09. I am happy to report that Michael Jackson’s This Is It is the new number one movie at the box office. Michael Jackson’s This Is It is a music documentary about Michael Jackson’s last concert tour. It was footage of Michael Jackson’s rehearsals for his “This Is It” concert. The movie made over $32 million domestically (American & Canada) and over $68 million internationally bringing its total to $101 million and counting. Michael Jackson’s This Is It has surpassed Hannah Montana concert internationally. Hannah Montana made more domestically but Michael Jackson’s documentary has already surpassed what Hannah Montana made during its entire run at the box office. This is one of the best openings for a Halloween weekend release at the box office. I had the privilege to see this documentary and I really loved it. It was a great way to pay tribute to Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson’s This Is It has been extended to be available at least through Thanksgiving (here in America) and possibly internationally. This Is It was originally supposed to be released for only two weeks, but due to popular demand, it has been extended to be play in theaters longer. I think this is a great treat for Michael Jackson fans. Michael Jackson ruled in the music business and now he’s ruling the box office. I think Michael Jackson’s This Is It is definitely worth checking out if you are curious to see how one of Michael Jackson’s concerts would have been made. It is great behind-the-scenes footage.
There were no other new releases this week. I guess the studios didn’t want to compete with the Halloween holiday or with Michael Jackson’s documentary.
Last week’s number one movie at the box office Paranormal Activity slipped to number two. The movie made over $16 million at the box office. The movie’s total is now $84.8 million so far. This movie is doing way better than I thought. When the movie first came out, the critics made it seem as if the movie wouldn’t’ do well and now I guess they were wrong.
Law Abiding Citizen and Couples Retreat held steadily to their audiences. Law Abiding Citizen took in over $7 million and Couples Retreat made over $6 million at the box office.
Saw VI is continuing its downward spiral at the box office. The movie made over $5 million. Saw VI has made $22.8 million since its debut. Things are not looking good for this movie. It may not even make what the other Saw movies made during their run at the box office. I haven’t seen any of the Saw movies so I’m not sure if they are any good.
Where The Wild Things Are also slid down at the box office. The movie made over $5 million. Where The Wild Things Are had the biggest decline in ticket sales. The movie lost 64% of its audience from last week. The movie has made $61.8 million since it debuted at the box office.
Here are the Top 10 movies at the box office:
- *Michael Jackson’s This Is It – 21.3 million (counted on domestic total not overall total)
- Paranormal Activity – 16.5 million
- Law Abiding Citizen – 7.3 million
- Couples Retreat – 6 million
- Saw VI – 5.5 million
- Where The Wild Things Are – 5 million
- The Stepfather – 3.4 million
- Astro Boy – 3.035 million
- Amelia – 3 million
- Cirque du Freak: The Vampire Assistant – 2.8 million
*Indicates new movie

That documentary of MJ KILLED the box office! Whatever his name is on will sell as we see with all of his work. Great job and thanks for sharing
I saw the movie concerning Michael; you can’t go expecting to see some fantastic display of Michael’s dance magic, but you do get a view of what it’s like to work with Michael around and what his art meant to him and others that he inspired.
MJ my favorite Topper

Thanks for the info my friend. I will just wait for Paranormal Activity as my kind of movie to be shown here in UK. BTW, Jacko will be elated that his powers doesn’t subside despite his shift to a higher plain of being.

Will
great. MJ is really a big hit.
Jackson has always been my favourite and your article has indeed given very useful information and facts. Thanks for a very interesting post.
CA, after your fantastic reviews I might just have to go to the movies. lol
No doubt MJ’s movie will become the best of the week. Probably it will become the best movie in this year. I’ve heard from my friend that Saw VI is not as exciting as the previous series and the plot was too simple. I think that’s why it’s not becoming as great as the previous series.
Great review as always, I’m looking forward for the next one!
Where the wild things are looks cute, So what movies did you see
Was the This Is It movie all about just stage performing? I saw parts of the movie. I don’t think I saw all of it since it did so well at the movies.
