Bollywood is Shameless Copycat of Hollywood Movies
Survival of present day Bollywood film industry is heavily dependent copying Hollywood blockbuster movies.
Everybody knows Hollywood. But what the hell is Bollywood ? A misspelling of Hollywood ? No way.
Present day Indian city Mumbai was once called Bombay. Considering the volume of Hindi films they produce each year ( whether of any presentable quality or just pure rubbish ), the then unorganized Bombay film industry decided to call itself “Bollywood”, just in line with the globally famous American film industry, namely, Hollywood. Thus their journey of shameful imitation of Hollywood started.
Whenever a new Hindi film is released from so called Bollywood, film critics and commentators from every nook and corner of India itself will dismiss it as yet another copy of certain Hollywood blockbuster… and of course with good reason and evidence. Thanks to Hollywood, it has become so easy for Bollywood producers to make films these days. Just copy and paste ( like we do with computers) with some clever changes here and there. And translate them from English to Hindi. This is what is going on with present day Bollywood films. This way if they want they can complete a film even in a week ! So tall claim of India ( or for that matter Bollywood ) boasting of producing highest number films in a year has no credibility. Most them are grossly, shamelessly copied materials. If I had the money, even I can do that. India has lost its ingenuity. Indian film producers have become world champion in copy & paste job.
India produces approx. 850 films every year ( 70% of them imitation /duplicate /copied thing ) and Hollywood produces around 450 films a year( most of them with original storyline ). This means Hollywood is far greater in terms of quality and originality. Bollywood films lack creativity. You will see over usage of same plot/storyline again and again.
Rather than wasting my money on present day Bollywood movies, I would prefer buying vintage Bollywood actors / actresses wallpapers and photos from 60s to 80s and hang them on my drawing room walls.
Except for comedy films, I do not watch present day Bollywood movies. If you know a little bit of Hindi, if the film has English subtitles, I will of course recommend you to see some Bollywood comedy movies. Yes, only in this field or category Bollywood is unparalleled. I am sure, you will crave for more !

Very interesting to read your article. Your sorrow for this state of affairs at the Bollywood nowadays is understandable. But dear this is business. People will do anything for business.
They rarely think of country’s prestige. Their main aim is making money. And gain cheap popularity.
Looking for more from you.

I am a massive fan of Indian films like Bollywood, Tollywood etc. that make up the Indian film industry but I’m an even massive fan of Hollywood and I’ve seen more Hollywood films than Indian ones and I must COMPLETELY agree with you!
Sometimes, I just watch the Indian films with English subtitles and one such film that I watched was Ghajni and I was shocked to find out that it is exactly like the English film The Memento because even some lines were exactly out of The Memento.
The Indian film industry does produce some classic pieces of work but I think it is time that they started to get a bit more creative and did their own thing.
Good thought provoking article.
that’s little bit true…
