Battlefield Earth

How on Earth did this get made?

don’t know how this got on DVD, or was actually finished, but it got finished, and it got onto DVD!!! It was really that bad. Who ever got John Travolta, Forest Whitaker, and even Barry Pepper to star in it must have promised them something extra special or like part of its story line black mailed them into doing it.

The story is basically about an alien race that had enslaved the human race, and it was set in the year 3000. The planet Earth looked like the year 2000 after a major global party, but had been left like that ever since. The humans looked like cave men, only a little more intelligent.

The humans after our hero is captured start a revolt to gain their freedom from their alien tormentors. The storyline could have been believable if the alien race weren’t such idiots. I can’t believe this alien race could ever enslave any form of intelligent race.

The acting was poor by the A-list stars, and again I cannot stress how much as to how all three stars I mentioned where roped into doing this movie? John Travolta’s name turns up as one of the producers, so I guess that is why he acts in it, but the other two must have had a big old carrot dangled in front of their face to do this movie.

Barry Pepper isn’t an action hero actor, and it shows in this movie. I think Forest Whitaker had made this movie due to starring in phenomenon in 1996 with Travolta maybe, and he didn’t really seem to want to be in this movie.

The only real positive thing I can say about this movie is that the special effects where ok enough, and the musical score written for it is just about ok enough to keep me interested. So it just goes to show that the movie was that poorly produced, directed, and acted. The musical score wasn’t really that good enough for me to be honest, it was the only reason for me at the end to keep me from wanting to burn the DVD and hope it still fits back into the Blockbuster rental machine.

I do try to find something positive about every movie I watch, but when the special effects are really the only thing going for a movie I find that you shouldn’t own it in your DVD collection, nor should you really own up to watching this movie. I only have owned up to watching it on here, because I wanted to write a review on it.

The producers of this movie, a company called Franchise Pictures where sued by the movies investors for fraud. The investor won, and won such a major amount of money that Franchise Pictures went bankrupt.

So all in all this movie was destined to be a major flop, and I would assume that if it ever has sold any copies on DVD other than to rental outlets then I would really be shocked.
