Thanks to the production team who developed an excellent trailer and had a fantastic viral marketing for the movie, I hope the movie would at least break even in the first weekend and produce some profits. I had great expectations for the movie, because it was not the sleazy science fiction one like Avatar. Watching the trailer it felt like a cross between district 9 and black hawk down.
In spite of the big budget the director was awarded, he failed to utilize it well. I was hoping to get a good look at the design of the aliens. But at no point they were shown clearly. To produce some reality a hand held camera was used at some combat situations which was a disaster. The movie had lots of plot holes in it, for like why can’t they just shoot the meteors with the missiles at the start of the movie itself.
Take black hawk down and replace the Somalians with the aliens and add some stereotypes characters (one guy sacrifices himself for the protection of the whole group lol) in it and make a mixture, what you get is Battle Los Angeles. At the start of the movie the aliens were shown as the smart one. But after going towards the climax, they were just shown as animals that just stand there without moving till a tank runs over them. For such advanced species, they don’t have anti missile technology or any other heavy weapons. Utter disappointment in my case as there was a very much predictable story line and even more predictable climax.
Bottom – Line: If you are interested in some cheesy explosions, watch it once. If you are expecting District 9 or Starship Troopers, avoid the movie.
