“Harold and Maude” is a film about a boy, Harold Chasen played by Bud Cort, who enjoys going to funerals. Later at a funeral he meets a 79-year-old woman, Maude played by Ruth Gordon, in which he befriends. Throughout the movie Harold and Maude go on miniature adventures around the city including moving a tree from downtown to the forest and escaping from a police officer when trying to be arrested. Also throughout the movie Harold fakes his suicide in front of his mother to get her attention because she never notices him.
Some good elements in this movie are camera placement and the story line. An example of the good camera placement is at the beginning when Harold is getting ready to perform one of his suicides for his mother and the camera is placed lower then normal so the viewer can’t see his face to make the viewer wonder what he looks like. Then when you can finally see his face he is being hung. The storyline in this film is very interesting because the possibility of having a child who actually enjoys going to funerals and commits suicide almost everyday. This interests me because that case is very unlikely and is a funny element in the film.
It was hard to find any bad elements in the film but the sound during a few scenes is kind of bad because there is static in the background that distracts the viewer. An example would be during a vital scene where Harold lights himself on fire. Other then that the movie was funny and exciting when Harold and Maude went on their adventures.
