81st Annual Academy Awards
My thoughts on the 2009 Oscars, before the show airs.
It is Sunday, February 22, 2009. As millions of people from around the globe are getting ready to watch the Academy Awards, hundreds of celebrities are primping and grooming themselves for a night they’ll hopefully never forget. Many A-List Celebrities are hitting the gym for a last minute workout. Some are even going to their tanning salons getting that perfect golden glow. And many others are at their salons or having their “people” coming over to the house to get them glamorized into beaming goddesses ready for the red carpet. A lot of them are nervous and anxious.
As the day wears on the butterflies in their stomachs start to increase and the fluttering of their hearts go into overdrive. Most of these celebs are veterans and have done this many times over. But I’m sure that some of them still get that little tick of nervousness and anxiety every now and then. They’ve graced the screens in many spectacular films that dazzled audience members. Who would ever think that they could ever get nervous?
For others though, this would be their first time. Their first chance at their very own shining moment. Many of these newbies have dreamed of this day their entire lives and now its coming true like a real-life fairy tale. For them it is a destiny realized since the day they were born. As children they watched wide-eyed at the television screens or cinema theaters in hopes of one day being in those films.
Many of my own personal favorites are up for awards this season. Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie, and even the late Heath Ledger are going head to head with some of the most renowned actors in their field. And then there are the few new surprise nominees that are breakthrough actors in their genre. Actors such as Anne Hathaway, Josh Brolin, and Viola Davis are first time nominees sure to make a splash this season. We’ll see if any of them get to have their shining moment realized during this telecast.
As the hour nears, last minute preparations for the after-parties and the after-after-parties go underway. One of the main parties is the Governors Ball, attended by some of the most prestigious members of the industry. The red carpet goes through its final dust-up to make way for the red carpet arrivals. And the limousines are well on their way to pick up the ever-so ready celebrities ready to hit the stage. Many people around the country and globe will be glued to their television sets awaiting the results of the ballot, as I will too.
