Iron Man 2 had a two-week run as the best movie at the box office. Unfortunately, its reign is over. There’s a new number one movie at the box office. Shrek Forever After is the new number one movie at the box office. This is the fourth installment of the Shrek series. It made over $70 million. This is far below the other three Shrek movies. The tickets prices ballooned to $20, but the movie still didn’t do better at the box office. It still came in at number one, but the numbers were disappointing. Shrek Forever Afterwas expected to make over $100 million, but it didn’t meet expectations. This doesn’t bode well for the stars Mike Meyers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz. They all needed this movie to be a hit since none of them had hits in a while. Shrek Forever After may make a lot of movie at the box office during its run, but it will most likely make far less than the other Shrek movies. I didn’t see any of the movies in the series so I probably won’t see this either.
Iron Man 2 slipped to the number two spot with over $26 million. The movie lost 49 percent of its audience. When Iron Man was out, it only slipped 38 percent and made over $31 million its third week. Iron Man 2 still managed to make more money than the first movie at this point, but that’s due to higher ticket prices. At the rate the movie is going, it may struggle to earn the amount of money the first movie made.
Robin Hood fell to number three with over $18 million. It had the standard drop in attendance that movies like these usually get. It lost 48 percent of its audience. The movie has made over $66 million since its debut. It is doing worse than Russell Crowe’s Gladiator movie.
Rounding out the top five are Letters To Juliet and Just Wright. Letters To Juliet did well for its second week. It made over $9 million at the box office. The movie has made over $27 million since its debut. Just Wright came in at number five with over $4 million. The movie has lost 49 percent of its audience. The movie has made over $14 million since its debut. This doesn’t look good for Queen Latifah. Hopefully the budget isn’t too big for this movie because it’s not going to see much of a profit.
There were a couple of new releases at the box office. MacGruber only made over $4 million at the box office. MacGruber is based on a skit from Saturday Night Live. It must have been hard for the audience to see this as a whole movie instead of a few- minute skit. I saw the skit on Saturday Night Live and I didn’t care for it. I didn’t think it was funny so I wasn’t going to check out the movie. It looks like I’m not the only one who didn’t want to see it. MacGruber is a spoof of the television series MacGyver. Some things should be left alone. Luckily the movie’s budget is only $10 million. I doubt that the movie is even going to make the $10 million. If it does, it will most likely not make much of a profit. Maybe it’s time for the people at Saturday Night Live to stop turning a few-minute skit into a movie.
The other new release was Kites. I am not familiar with this movie so I can’t tell you what it is about. The movie debuted at number 10 with $1 million.
