You remember when you were a kid and some of your best hours were spent watching cartoons?

You might have had a few favorites along the way; ones that either made you want to be super hero and round up all the bad guys and save the world, ones that made you wanted to be a tough bad guy or maybe it was the wacky, wild and oh-so funny cartoons characters that would make you laugh so hard you’d pee your pants and just couldn’t wait to tell your friends about the characters latest fiasco. Do you remember your favorite wacky, wild and oh-so funny cartoon character? Here is a list of some pretty wacky, wild cartoon characters that have managed to withstand the test of time and leave a somewhat larger than life impression on you.

Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner

Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner have definitely made a larger then life long lasting impression on kids from every generation since it first aired in 1948. It is truly one of the all time funniest and wackiest cartoons ever. Wile E. coyote and the Road Runner series are broadly based on a cat and mouse game. No matter hard hard the coyote tries he is never able to outsmart the fast and witty road runner. While the road runner can run through walls while the coyote will smash into them. Ultimately, he is always the cause of his own demise with his relentless effort to outsmart the road runner he often ends up in some pretty peculiar situations that are down right humorous.

Inspector Gadget

Inspector gadget another cartoon series that has made a lasting impression which first aired in 1983. He was a bumbling, stumbling and wacky inspector with bionic body parts, who works for the Metro city police department and who mostly relies on his young niece (Penny and her dog, Brain) to keep him out of harms way and to solve the case. He is one of the funniest characters with his inane ideas and his profound ability to which often leads him in the wrong direction, yet very dedicated and determined to catching the bad guy (Dr. Claw) and his never ending schemes to destroy gadget.

Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny

Who could ever forget about the constant witty dual of Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny. Elmer Fudd is a hunter who speaks with a speech impediment, which results in him pronouncing his R’s as W’s and who’s sole purpose is to shoot the ever antagonizing Bugs Bunny but the ever clever Bugs, always leads Fudd on a merry chase. These wacky characters will keep you laughing to the very end with their game of wit and outwit. Although there is some speculation, Elmer Fudd is believed to be the the end result of The “Egghead” character which aired back in the 30’s and 40’s.

Daffy Duck

Daffy Duck is one of the most wackiest, wildest cartoon character of them all. This Duck has played along side other characters but has always made an impression. It is unpredictable and unreliable and borders on madness with it’s uncontrollable mood swings. He is one of the goofiest oddballs that will definitely put you on the end of your seat laughing or wondering just what he’s got up his sleeve next.

Ren and Stimpy

Ren and Stimpy were some real crazy characters to remember that’s for sure. If you think Daffy Duck is mad then you haven’t met Ren. Ren is a stone cold psychotic maniac chihuahua, with a strong tendency for violence. Stimpy is his simpleton friend, a cat, with some talent for playing the piano and numbers but is best known for his simpleton behavior. Together these two are unjustifiably two of the wackiest , wildest, and believe it or not, funny characters.

Shaggy and Scooby doo

Shaggy and Scooby Doo are probably the most favorite of the later generation. They are two members of a ghost hunting mystery solving group but yet they cower from any ghost like activity. They make you laugh with their screams, yells and cowardly behavior and  their uncanny ability to always end up where the least want to be; in the presence of ghosts. Scooby Doo, Shaggy’s ever loyal pet and best friend, who will do anything for a doggy treat, which  will give him the will to push himself. These two are definitely among the wacky, wild and oh, so funny cartoon characters that will make you laugh.

These are just some of the wackiest, wildest and oh-so funny cartoon characters that have mad a long lasting impression on some. While some may seem too violent  others may see them as over-the-top wacky. One things for sure, these wacky cartoon characters with their mannerisms, speech patterns and wacky catch-phrases are what made most of them so popular among kids and adults a like.

Bugs Bunny is wholly and completely responsible for my working, social vocabulary and diction; and therefore has been my silent hero and 3rd parent for quite some time. Nice write, Deb!

One thing that I’ve noticed as cartoons have changed since the 60’s is the downward spiral of the level of intelligence in the humour. Bugs Bunny was hilarious to kids and adults. Compare that to Sponge Bob Square Pants, where most of the humour comes from insulting the other characters, and the writing is just idiotic. Cartoons produced for the preteen market are mostly violent and full of evil.
Even if Wile E. Coyote did die a horrific death at the end of each scene – we knew he would be fully restored for his next creative attempt to catch the road runner. Just an aside: if he had the money to buy all of those Acme kits, couldn’t he just buy some food?

I love a good cartoon- perhaps more than is healthy for an grown woman-I just adore Spongebob- he’s so bubbly & optimistic, but lately the writing has gone downhill. But I wish somebody would bring back Looney Tunes! Daffy Duck is my favorite: he’s so self-important and arrogant. That Duck Season/Wabbit Season episode gives me seizures I laugh so hard…

I used to love cartoons when I was a kid and of course, Saturday mornings were the best. I am afraid my memory is a little older than yours though. Most of the cartoons listed here I remember from my kids watching them. I remember Popeye & Bluto and Felix The Cat from my childhood.

I enjoyed this article very much and am passing it on to my sons to enjoy too.

Why aren’t Tom and Jerry on the list? They’re better than any of the characters that are.
