When your heart can beat in excess of 400 beats per minute, pumping vast amounts of adrenalin into your system, then this results in the slowing down of your perception of the world. This helps you to react with frightening speed and accuracy. Only a handful of people in the world can do this, only a handful of people have this gift.
Poor young Wesley Gibson is in a dead end job, loathes his boss and his best friend is having an affair with his girlfriend. (Having an affair is the cleaned up version, in the film it’s far more graphic).
His father disappeared when he was a child and he’s just found out that he was the greatest assassin that ever lived! However his father is killed and the assassins guild have come to recruit Wesley to take his place.
But first he must survive his fathers assassin trying to kill him!
The special effects in the first ten minutes alone are spectacular, with ‘matrix’ style bullet time being used. This includes flipping a car sideways over two police cars onto the side of a bus which in turn knocks the bus on its side, then simply driving off the bus and then the car continuing on it journey.
I won’t ruin anymore of the film, the film is a spectacular blockbuster of a movie with all the latest CGI techniques and breathtaking stunts. The car landing in the train is especially stunning.
There are some uncomfortable scenes where they use dead bodies hanging on meat hooks for gun practice, ugh.
He eventually joins the assassins guild after being beaten to a pulp, stabbed, sealed in a bath of wax and thrown onto a moving train. Amongst other things.
When he is ready,t he world had better beware!
Especially when the double crosses start !!! And what a double cross it is !!!
Cast
James McAvoy- Wesley Allan Gibson.
Morgan Freeman – Sloane.
Angelina Jolie – Fox.
Though not a huge fan of Angelina Jolie, she gives a superb performance (surprisingly).
Morgan freeman gives his usual perfect performance, lets be honest, he doesn’t do bad and as for James McAvoy, well he’s pretty good.
One criticism, The Loom of Destiny is a bit barmy? I won’t go into detail, maybe I missed something? Just didn’t get it.
But apart from that, a film that can be watched again.
