Wanted: The Next Best Thing After Fight Club
Really, there hasn’t been any movie that came close to Fight Club until Wanted came along.
It’s just so bad I didn’t get to watch Wanted in a theater and just recently watched it on DVD, but I still think it’s the next best thing after Fight Club. Usually, watching a film on DVD after I’ve watched it in theaters can sometimes make a movie less likeable. With this one, I really regret not watching it in theaters while it was running because now I know it’s such a great movie!!!

It’s a kick ass action packed film with a few predictable twists along the way. It may not be as unique and astounding as Fight Club but it comes close enough to be 2nd on my list.
The main character is Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) who is the usual lowly “Yes Sir/Ma’am” office personnel living the same routine everyday of his life until someone assassinates another assassin. One day while he was in a drugstore, Fox (Angelina Jolie) suddenly came out of nowhere and told him that his father was killed by a rouge assassin and that his father was also one of the few great assassins. Now this is where the real fun and action begins. Here’s where his recruitment into a thousand year old secret society of assassins (The Fraternity) begins.
This is the part where we see’d then see him train to be an assassin so he can take revenge over his father’s killer. That’s the whole point of the movie, but then not everything is always what they seem as Wesley learns later on. Eventually, The Fraternity, that brutally trained him to be as powerful as his father had to be taken down by no one else but him.
What I like about this movie is the action and kick ass computer generated special effects plus the action packed training sequence. There wasn’t any Kung Fu or any other institutional fight style but it’s really the most fun part. I also like the fact that Night Watch/Day Watch lead actor Anton (Konstantin Khabensky) was also in this movie. Because I like the two films it came as a surprise to me to see him as a cas member. After a bit of Wikiing, I have concluded that he is included in Wanted because this movie and the –Watch movies are directed by the same person – Timur Bekmambetov, a Russian director – and also because Khabensky is now the most famous actor in Russia.
Anyway, why do I say it’s the next best thing to Fight Club? Well, apart from the great and exciting action and special effects, it’s gritty and kind of reminds you of the mentioned Edward Norton movie due to the nature of it’s “crude” content (using uncensored words and actions plus all the blood). It is indeed rated R so it’s understood that only adults are supposed to watch it. And also, Wanted is not as realistic as the real world we live in and it’s also not as super powered like X-Men or the Matrix trilogy where things are so far fetched and unreal. These are what makes Wanted come close enough to Fight Club.
The only down side was a bit of predictable scenarios but other than that everything is amazing. Even the soundtrack is great! I definitely recommend this to everyone who loves action films with a bit of unrealism in them.
From a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the worst and 10 being the best, I give this film a resounding 9!
