Today the Horror Genre is filled with terrible slasher films and silly supernatural films like Paranormal Activity, but sometimes out of the darkness comes a glimer of hope and that it what I think “The Pact” is. The film revolves around two sisters who are struggling to come to terms with the death of their mother, who it is revield was a very cruel women who used to beat the sisters. At the films start 1 of the sisters (Played by Agnes Brookner) is in their mothers house organising her funeral. The house is run down and is the typical setting for any horror film. Tension rises as she starts getting drawn into a cupboard where their mother used the beat them when they were naughty. After a heated phone call with her sister Annie (Caity Lotz) she decides to video chat with her daughter. During the video chat she starts to loose connection so she goes into the living room, once inside her daughter asks her mother “Mommy, whos that behind you?” The camera turns quickly to the cupboard with has the door wide open. She sets down her laptop and as she slowly approaches the dark cupboard she gets sucked in and the door slams shut, End of Scene.
The next scene opens showing you Annie the second sister who is a tough motorbike riding girl. She gets to the house to try and find her sister but when she gets there all she can find is her laptop and mobile phone. Whilst looking for her sister she decides to stay in the house instead of finding a motel. Whilst asleep she has a dream where shes walking through the house slowly walking to her mothers room but before she gets to the door she is awoken by a loud bang. When she goes to investigate she find the fridge door open and food all over the floor, she cleans up and goes back to bed. The next day she finds Kim, the women who is looking after her sisters child. She invites them to come and stay at their mothers house whilst their Annie confesses she feels like something is inside the house watching her. Once their all asleep the mothers Jewellery box “falls” off the nightstand waking Kim and Annie. Kim is the first to respond and she get out of bed opens her door but returns to bed leaving the door open, she is restless because of the light coming through the door but before she can move to close it a figure appears holding a knife and the screen goes black. The camera shoots to Annie who is checking out her mothers jewellery box before she heres a bang in the living room. She investigates and she is dragged across the house by a mysterious presence, she arms her self with a knife but it gets stuck in the wall a little too well (you’ll understand soon). She runs out the house but remembers she has forgot the little girl, she returns for the girl but when she goes to check on kim shes finds her missing and signs of a stuggle. After the police are no help to her she finds her self sitting in a cafe looking through a box of her mothers things. Among her mothers things she finds blue prints to her house where she discovers theirs another room in the house that the door too has been boarded up (Hence the knife entering easy). She decides to stay the night at the motel ( bad idea ) and act upon it in the morning. In the Motel she has the same weird dream but this time she can hear someone crying as she approaches the mothers room she opens the door and a man is sat on the bed crying she wakes up in a panic. When she goes outside to get a drink from the soda machine she passes a room and hears crying, she looks through the window and find the man from her dreams sitting there crying she runs into her room and find a disfigured body on the bed, she awakes for real and finds she has a dream within a dream. When she goes back to the house with a police detective he explains to her than their is nothing they can do but take pictures. She decides to call upon the help of one of her old high school friends who can talk to the dead, this is the blind medium “Stevie” (Before we continue Stevie is a girl).
When they goto the house Stevie feels a presence in the living room and upon entering the secret room starts to have some kind of seizure, she starts screeming “JUDAS!” When Annie looks up the disfigured boddy from her dreams is floating above them and is getting closer, she drags Stevie out of the room and returns to her motel room. When she googles Judas she find a man nicknamed the Judas killer in their area and when analysing the victims she find one of her mothers friends. She soon realise the necklace around her neck belonged to her mothers murdered friend, when she calls stevie she tells her that the only way to be rid of the spirit is to allow it to tell her what it wants her to know then it will leave her alone. Ofcause to do this they have to use a dreaded Ouijia Board.
She returns to the house and draws a Ouijia board on the floor and uses the cross of the necklace as a pointer. When she asks did my moms brother murder you she answers yes and is dragged behind a pair of curtains. At the same time in the secret room a mysterious hatch opens in the floor and out climbs an old beady eyed man, he goes into the kitchen and starts raiding the fridge, while hes doing this Annie sneaks down the basement and finds the bodies of her Sister, Kim and a Police man who returned to the house. She screams and run out crying. The mystery man hears this and we identify him and the Judas killer. He comes into the room and as Annie trys to shoot him he hits her over the head with a piece of wood. She awakes in the beating cupboard and uses a coat hanger as a weapon when her uncle opens the cupboard to kill her she stabs him with the coat hanger. When she goes to stab him with his dagger she gets dragged throught the wall by the spirit to a gun. She shoots the killer as he comes through the door and all is “fine”. Annie is seen in a cafe with her niece and then it cuts back to the house and the camera travels to one of the peep holes where a mysterious eye appears looking in at the camera signaling the killer may not be dead.
This is a film to beat in the horror line up of 2012. I urge everyone to go see it as it is an amazing film with a great cast.
If you do go to see it I hope you enjoy it as much as i did.
