Sexiest Man Alive Bradley Cooper Movie, Limitless — A Review

I netflixed the movie Limitless a few days ago and was surprised to see such a recent movie already on DVD or streaming. After watching the movie for a few minutes, I saw why it was already on DVD. Want to know if you should nexflix, rent or buy Limitless? Herein lies your answer.

Limitless stars Bradley Cooper, Peoples 2011 Sexiest Man Alive

Here’s Bradley Cooper on the cover of Peoples Magazine.

You may also know Bradley Cooper from the popular movie Hangover and Hangover II.  I saw both movies.  Of course the first Hangover was more entertaining than the second one, but the sequel was not bad.

Bradley Cooper stars in the movie Limitless with appearances by Robert De Niro.

Here is a trailer showing Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro.

Here is another trailer for the movie Limitless.

A movie looking for an ending.

After watching this movie, it can be described as a movie looking for an ending.  I can attest to the fact that this movie has about two beginnings, two middles, and another beginning at the ending — if you can follow that. And no ending.

Non-sexy female costar

His relationship with his female costar followed the same sequence — together — apart, together again, apart, then back together again.  With all these changes, at least give us a sexier female costar, if she is going to keep reappearing in the movie.

Here’s Bradley Cooper with his  non-sexy female costar.

A movie with nowhere to go

Simply said, this is a movie that started slow and didn’t go anywhere, even after more than an hour of movie play — and ended badly.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start from the beginning.

The wonder drug

The gist of the movie is that Bradley Cooper is a struggling writer who has writer’s block, meets his estranged ex-brother in law by a chance meeting on the street, gets a clear drug pill, and decided to give it a try.  After taking the pill, he becomes extremely  smarter.  He  ditches his writing gig, gets involved in stocks, becomes a big success, then crashes physically after he runs out of the drug.

He raids his ex-brother in law’s apartment for the drug but finds him deceased sitting on the couch.  He calls to report a murder while at the same time locating a stash of the pills and hiding them in his clothing when the cops arrive.

Later on in the movie, his girlfriend is being followed by who knows who, and Bradley Cooper tells her to take the pill and she will know what to do.  What did she do?  Swing a poor kid who was in a skating rink around and used the little girl’s ice skates to scrape the side of her follower’s face when he catches up with her in the skating rink. If this was a smart move, I think she took the wrong pill — or maybe she should not have taken the pill at all.

Far-fetched huh?  To make matters worse, soon everybody seems to be taking the drug, including the loan shark and a business competitor.

The clencher?  Towards the end of the film, Robert De Niro who had acted like Bradley Cooper was the smartest man this side of the galaxy, admits that he knew all along that Bradley Cooper had been taking the pill.

Can a movie go in circles – plot wise?

Unbelievable? Yes.   Even worse — Bradley Cooper starts taking the pill again, he rises up, takes over the other business, eventually becomes a Senator, and the movie ends with him back with his girlfriend ordering dinner in a foreign language — which had happened at the beginning of the movie.

At the beginning, there’s a “cliff hanger” where you see Bradley Cooper standing on a ledge getting ready to jump off — which of course he didn’t.  This same scene reappears in the movie after going through a flash-back of events.

No friendship type character development

At one point in the movie when Bradley Cooper is at his ’smartest’, he goes to a tropical mountainous island and dares himself to jump off a tall mountainous peak in the water miles down below, with his  new-found “friends” looking on. When he jumps, there is no alarm shown by his “friends,”, or any help to get him back to shore, or anything like that. The movie just cuts quickly to the next scene with no attempt to transition between him doing such a dangerous feat to the next scene.

Limitless is limited in story and plot

After seeing this movie, I can say the movie was titled just right.  It was totally Limitless in story and plot as well as the many ways it tried to insult my intelligence.

Calling Hangover III to the rescue

My advice to Bradley Cooper — Hang in there for another Hangover sequel movie role.

Limitless was a complete waste of your time doing it, and a complete waste of my time watching it.
