SATC: The Girls are Back, But Where Have They Been?

Samantha, Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte? It has been confirmed that our lovable gals are coming back for a sequel to the 2008 smash hit film adaptation. Sex and the City is one of my favorite shows-okay so it’s a lot of people’s favorite show. The last film ended with Charlotte and husband Harry happily married- glowing with the long time awaited arrival of their own daughter. Miranda forgave her husband Steve for cheating on her. Samantha said so long to the never thought possible long term relationship with the gorgeous Smith and lived happily with just as equally promiscuous dog. And as for Carrie- Carrie finally settled down with her long running love interest from the show-the infamous Mr. Big.

Many were shocked at the fact that now 3 of the 4 main women ended up married considering the show made it so big from the fact that they ea. (well with exception of the enduring cheerleader for love- Charlotte) defied what conventional thought was at the moment. The show broke ground and brought to light the idea of being happily single, successful, and gasp-a woman is okay!-Something universally looked down upon at the time of it’s premier.

The show featured hot and at times interesting love interests for the girls such as the Hot Roll Guy, Mr. P***Y, etc. , along with vivid sex scenes, raw honesty, and always a good laugh. The show to me, offered more than that, underlying the humor and sex, was a story of friendship, family, love, forgiveness, hope, and of course a platform for women everywhere.

So what have the actresses been up to since the ending of the show and the last SATC movie?

Kim Catrell- portrayed my favorite character, Samantha Jones. Samantha was a fiercely successful, gorgeous, and very very sexually active p.r. agent. Samantha did not believe in relationships, just fun one night flings until she met the actor Smith who she ends up with at the end of the sixth season. And as always, shows that even at fifty, you can still be hot, sexy, and still enjoy sex. Catrell has since played in various movies and made several guest star appearances in television shows including The Simpsons. She stars in two movies now in post production- The Ghost and Meet Monica Velour. Catrell has wrote a few books, won awards, and was one of People Magazine’s “Most Intriguing People of 2001.”

Charlotte York- probably the SATC girl I identify most with, was the always enduring and head strong character determined to find love. York was lovingly frigid and always looked for the Mr. Right to marry and ended up with the least likely man she ever thought she could end up with. Since the SATC rap up, Kristen Davis has played the voice of Miss Spider on Miss Spider’s Sunny Patch Friends, as well as filming an upcoming movie Couples Retreat. Davis also has been linked to a sex video scandal as many stars do.

Miranda Hobbes was the ball busting, serious, lawyer who showed a softer side when she became a mother in the show. Cynthia Nixon who plays Hobbes has battled cancer since SATC and has played in a few movies since the show.

And finally Carrie Bradshaw, the voice and main actress of SATC finally married Mr. Big in the movie. In real life Sarah Jessica Parker has a clothing line called Bitten for Steve and Barry’s outlet store. She also just welcomed two new baby girls to add to her family with husband and actor Matthew Broderick.  Parker has also stared in multiple films and has some in post production since the SATC rap up.

On what is to come in the sequel is still unsure of. Many fear that it will flop due to the age of the women, and well with the fact that most movie sequels do not equal the original. I know that I will see the movie regardless, if from anything-my longtime faithfulness to the show.
