Pre-Opinions on 300 [the movie]

A very short article I wrote on some thoughts I had about the upcoming movie, 300. Very brief but you might learn.. something?

“Tonight we dine in Hell!”

Yelled Leonidas, Leader of the Spartans (late 480 BC – early 490 BC). After Gladiator, Troy, Alexander, King Arthur, here arrives yet again, an additional historical movie. However, we can all safely presume that Hollywood will twist it to fit the younger audiences’ preferences. (Creatures, gore, nudity…) Now, this movie, 300, it might ring a bell to any movie or comic fanatics. If it does then perhaps you’re thinking of, the 300 Spartans, the 1962 movie, or the Frank Miller’s interpretation as a comic; depicting that same legendary battle, the Battle of Thermopylae. If you’ve read that 300 comic then you’ve got yourself quite a good preview of what to expect to see in the movie since, as you might have guessed, its being based on his version and he’ll be an executive producer of the movie. Frank Miller has already produced the unforgettable, Sin City, which some may judge as ‘stupid’ while others as extraordinary and now he’s attacking yet another movie. Obviously you can expect this movie to enter another fascinating realm of Frank’s imagination with help from Dawn of the Dead remake producer, Zack Snyder. It’ll be something interesting to look forward to.

The trailers of this movie have now widely been spread among the Internet, now available on practically any video hosting site. Two separate versions have been released. These are said to be the best trailers released for a movie, and I’ll admit that the one I saw really made me want to get up and watch it straight away. It shows what anyone with basic historical knowledge will recognize right away about the Spartans. The judging of the babies at Lesche, sending the boys away to camps at the age of seven, severe training, teaching them that death was nothing to fear, it was an honor to die and eventually end up in the Elysian Fields. Along with some Battle of Thermopylae scenes where they clearly represented some main events. Pushing the Persian ambassador down the well, the Persians arriving around the mountains thanks to the revelation of a Greek traitor, Xerxes getting very ticked off and the huge Persian army. An unforgettable battle will now be revealed to all those ignorant individuals. March 16, 2007 WILL be a day to mark on the calendars. The release of a movie that will prove to be intriguing and action-packed. Goody goody?
