Hancock: The Movie
Hancock is an action based superhero movie based in Los Angeles, California.
Hancock(Will Smith) is more than a superhero. He is also an alcoholic and is an overall very angry person. While Hancock may stop the bad guys he causes millions of dollars worth of damage in the process. Actually almost everybody hates Hancock and wants him to leave the city. The movie goes where no super hero movie has gone before because it shows the effect of the super hero to a city’s budget. Have you ever watched Spider-man and wondered why no one gets mad when Spider-man derails a train, destroys roads, and destroys cars throughout the road? Something that would require millions of dollars to repair. This movie shows the effect of the superhero to a city. One day, Ray Embrey, a man who works in public relations, is coming home from work when he realizes that he is trapped on the train tacks. He can’t go forward go backward or even turn. What’s worse is that a train is coming! After the handle mysteriously comes off of the car door trapping Ray inside, Hancock appears. Instead of flying the car directly upward to save Ray he instead flips it upside down on top of 2 other cars. As everyone exits their car Hancock makes a rude remark about their intelligence and the crowd fires back. Ray explains to the crowd how thankful he is for Hancock’s help as the crowd continues to criticize Hancock. After inviting Hancock home for dinner, Ray explains to him how he would like to help Hancock change his image. He wants to help Hancock be viewed as an influential super heroic member of society.
Rather than the angry, mean, drunk that most people view him as. Ray shows Hancock videos of him on YouTube.com that include videos of him exposing himself to kid at an ice cream truck after making an appearance at an apartment fire. Another video shown is one of Hancock helping a beach whale stuck on the beach by using his super strength to throw it into the ocean. As the whale is going into the water it takes out a boat. After this section of the movie you are completely and totally aware of why the city hates Hancock. A news show playing on the TV behind them announces that Hancock is to be arrested. Obviously Hancock cannot be arrested though. Bullets bounce off of him, he can fly, and he has super strength. Ray suggests that Hancock go to prison for his plan on changing the way the city views him. Just as Ray predicted the city is begging for him to help them, and he is eventually released from prison. Hancock, Ray, and his wife Mary go out to eat and Hancock is instantly a super celebrity. It is while they are eating dinner that Ray learns of Hancock’s past. Hancock woke up in a hospital in the early 1900’s and had no idea who he was. His skull had been fractured yet it had heeled in only an hour and now the needed were breaking against his skin. No one came to the hospital to claim him which has him question about who he was before then and how much of a disappointment he must have been to everybody. Whenever Hancock is around Mary, Ray’s wife, Mary acts in a strange way. Her body language towards him foreshadows possibly one of the biggest twists in Hollywood history. The ending is epic, the storyline adventurous, and the action incredible. This movie is the complete package perfect for any audience over that age of 14.
